Launch date April 10th in Japan. Records 23GB on one side of a blue ray disc. Cost $3,800, blank discs about $35 each.
HD recording and playback from direct TV satellite companys will be its major selling feature for now.
I couldn't find details on Sony's site. Details brought to you a site. CNN has just put up a story on it.

Wow, nice piece of hardware - what I find amazing is that there really isn't all that much info on the thing online. Very weird.
Hopefully in a few years the price comes down, the idea of getting that much storage on a dvd/cd sized platter is very cool.

Great the next 3 gens of DVD ray are now:
Blue
Red
Green? (I think they made one really bad, cheap and ran bad I thunk)
So now it will take 10+ years to figure out which is better for you money blah blah blah, I'll stick with Normal DVD right now.
No DVD-RW or DVDR-W or RW-DVD, Red-DVD. nada. Normal.
