Editing Audio in a Video Clip

Ok,me and a friend are making a video, using Star Wars clips, and I'm wondering if there is anyway to make it so that the special effect sounds stay in during dual scenes, but have the backround music out so we can add our own. Is it possible?

P.S. im using iMovie...

I also have another question. When I try to add text into a video clip, it creates it own section. I can not seem to get it inside the video, only after, is there a way to combine the text & video in one?

Hmm, I think i need more info...
What kind of file do you have the text in?
Photoshop, mov, jpeg?

im trying to put it in an MPEG-4 Video Clip...I hope that helps you... The text is Book Antiqua Italic....

iMovie always adds the text in the beginning of the selected clip for me. If the text related animation is let's say 5 seconds long, it splits off the first 5 seconds of the clip and renders that short section with the text superimposed on it.Is that what you mean by "creating its own section". Why is that a problem?

If you want to add the text in the middle of a clip, my solution is to split the clip at the moment I want the text to start appearing. Then select (highlight) the latter piece and add the text there. Make sure you don't have the "Use Black Background" option checked.

Sounds like FC Express might be a better solution for you.
I don't work with iMovie, so I can't make a better recommendation.
In FCE it is very easy to composite your text and sequence the audio.
iMovie isn't really and editor so much as an arranger... my opinion.

Have you clicked the 'show on a blank background' box in the text editor?

I guess you skipped my last sentence, the one about making sure the "Black background" option is UNclicked.

The way I did this is to extract the audio, copy it to a new project, export to WAVE, edit in Audacity and then export to WAVE again and back to iMovie

But I would recommend FC Express for that kind of work, the movie linked to in my sig was made in iMovie, but I am planning on getting FCE soon.

P.S. please post your movie on Youtube once it's finished, and send me a link, I always enjoy a good spoof, especially when it's made on a Mac
