Does is have a color screen? If not, then I would go ahead and get a color phone, since that phone is $150. You could probably find a color phone for about that price. Right?

I am assuming you have Verizon or Sprint service, since this is a CDMA phone.
I agree that you can get a color one for the same or even less money.
If you have Verizon, look at either the Audiovox CDM-9500 (the phone I will be getting this week) or the LG VX4400, though people have reported software issues with LG phones in the past. Don't get the Motorola T720 unless you want to pay more for a lesser phone, or you like it for some strange reason.
If you have Sprint, the Samsung line (either the N400 or the A500) is good, but the Sanyo with the camera is really cool.
As for the Kyocera you are looking at, I have a Kyocera 2135 and it has served me fairly well. I did have to have it replaced once, but that was for a minor issue that Verizon was too lazy to diagnose and fix (it probably cost them less to just give me a new phone).

yes get a color phone, the monochromatic display will seem old fast. i'm personally looking at the moterola 720, even tho i've heard less than great things about it, i love the way it looks... it's like a startac with a color screen...

If you're willing to use a GSM provider, I would suggest the Sony Ericsson T68i. I have one and it's great! The built-in bluetooth allows you to wireless sync with your mac and there is some new shareware program out that would actually allow your phone to do things such as automatically turn off itunes when it detects you leaving your computer and stuff.

I have Cingular. I have a Nokia 3360 right now. I thought about getting a color phone, but have never really looked to see what kind of color phones Cingular has. I think that they have some motorola color phones. Anyone have a color motorola phone?

If you have Cingular get the T68. It is currently one of the only phones that works with iSync via Bluetooth.
Or you could wait for the P800, expensive as it will be...

I am afraid that it looks like I am stuck with qwest. i mean true i could go to like verizon get that nice audiovox phone with a color wscreen for the same price, but then i am getting like 300 minutes for the same price as my 1k minute plan. i just cant go with 10 minutes per day on a cellphone. it just wouldnt work. If you're with Qwest they may be CDMA (I seem to remember them offering some Kyocera phones). If they are, you may be able to get the Audiovox phone, just not for $50.

Of all the Qwest phones I see on their site I'd get the Moto V60i for $150 (after $100 rebate).

That's too bad. Their selection of phones is terrible; even worse than Verizons.
I say if that's the selection go for the Kyocera. Seems to be the best sub-$200 phone there.

If you're barely able to afford a cell phone, it's probably better not to get one.
I mean, there are lots of other things your money could probably be better spent on, like investments :-). It kinda sucks if most of your money goes directly to the phone company.

Yeah, but what's the fun in that? Plus it's the monthly charges that kill ya anyway. I like my T68 because it's small and it has bluetooth, but people rarely notice it.

Yeah, I have to admit that it is pretty sweet. The bluetooth just blows everything away because you can use it as a wireless modem (ie. browse the web on your Tibook/Albook/Palm/PocketPC thru the phone, which could be in your backpack or your pocket), not to mention all of the cool multiplayer games you can play with other t68 users with bluetooth.

Man, you're 15 years old, WTF do you need a mobile phone for. Just wait to you get home to call your mates.
You should save the money so you can buy a car or something more useful. Kids lived for 000's of years without phones and I really think they are the biggest waste of money around.
There is nothing wrong with using a pay-phone in an emergency and you'll save tons of cash.
In Australia you hear of teenagers running up bills of $500-$1000/month on their phones and are basically bankrupt before they even graduate high school.
If you really need a phone then you should get a plan where you just buy a recharge card. You will quickly realise what a waste of money it is when you have to fork out cold hard cash for your calls. It's way to easy when the money comes straight out of your account to pay the bill as you don't connect the amount with actual currency as you do with cash.
Also once you get a phone you'll convince yourself that you could never live without it. Which is BS anyway. The only difference it will make to your life is you'll have $20-$40 less each month to spend on useful and cool stuff like PS2 games or whatever you're into.
Take my advice and save the cash. If you saved that $5/week until you're 30 and can make 10%/year on that money then you'd have $13,500 by the time your 30. That's enough to wicked holiday for 6 months. I know what I'd rather !!!!!

That's what I've been saying at first. I think the money you save would probably be better spent travelling the world and experiencing new things. There's so much out there that isn't just about materialistic things like new gadgets and the like.

in this area i would not use a pay phone. the ones that do not smell urine are being ooccupied by drug dealers. and this is a relatively safe neighborhood. 500 ****ing dollars? riiiight. well maybe that is autralian dinero but still that is incredibly expensive. even at a max, i could see maybe a 300 dollar bill. but oyu would have to make about 3000 minutres worth of phone calls. honestly
frankly i am not really debating the relative uses for cellphones, you are obviously a smart individual so i feel i do not need to explain them.

I think the $1000 phone bill would be due to extra services such as games, pictures, messaging, etc. I just got a phone that supports the first two, and I am amazed at how expensive these things are. Some cost $6 a month for ONE GAME! A game-happy cell user easily run up hundreds of dollars in charges.

I'm 15 and I have a cell phone. A lot (I'd say a majority) of my peers have them with how cheap the service is (especially with family plans) the phones have become quite popular. I think this is even more true outside of North America.

so you are willing to pay extra money so you have a neat background on a 1.5" screen you look at for at most 5 seconds before doing work with it? interesting.
until they have very high resolution screens and very high power phones, there is no reason i see, besieds the "wow" factor, to pay extra for a color screen.

I never call my friends with it, so I think a cell phone is okay for
a 15 year old if he isn't using up extra minutes, or all the family
minutes. But if he/she is at a movie theater, and if he/she
needs to call his/her mom to tell them they are going to hang out
for 15 minutes after the movie, and for his/her mom to pick them
up 15 minutes late, then cell phone is well worth the money.
Or to call ur mom to tell her that your car has just gotten totalled
by another car - something along those lines.

I use about 70 anytime minutes a month on my cell phone (we're on a family plan), though I use a lot more night and weekend minutes because I have unlimited night and weekend service through Verizon. Needing 1000 anytime minutes when you're 15 is insane. Plus, $40 a month is way too much money to spend on service, considering that you will actually be paying around $45-50 a month depending on the taxes and surcharges. Even though 1000 anytime for $40 is a great deal, it's still too much money for you to spend. Consider a lesser plan or a family plan.
Sorry if I came off mean in this post, but do you really need 1000 minutes a month?

Sorry to double post here...
1/2 a hour is a long time to spend on a cell phone in one day for people who aren't conducting business on the thing. This only applies to weekdays, talk as long as you want on weekends (I have unlimited on my plan). While 1/2 an hour isn't an outrageous amount of time to spend on the phone, how long are you going to be away from your house where you would make a 10 minute call? Most of my cell phone calls are under 1 minute (except to über...;) ). Look into a cheaper plan with less minutes (200-300 should be plenty) with unlimited nights and weekends.

the idea of 1000 minutes is that I will *not* run out. If I have less t hen say 500 there is a large chance that I will run over , thus costing a large bill-which i simply cannot afford.

OK, well here are some quibbles: Main problem is that it's too little. The ringers, all of them, are tweety chirps that are almost inaudible to me, even at the highest volume. The task list only holds 80 items and doesn't sort them; the organizer features are nearly unusable. The buttons are teeny and hard to press. Bluetooth syncing is extremely slow. There are simply too many features in too small of a package.
On the positive side, it works great, battery life is excellent, charges fast, the color screen is bright and easy to read, and the sync feature works well - I have around 300 contacts in the phone.

Makes sense, but you may still go over. On our family plan, with 1500 anytme minutes, we went over by about 300 minutes. At 35 cents a minute overage, well, you do the math...:(

Imagine poor me with a dead cell phone if i ever gave you my cell number ;)
Most of my cell phone calls are around one to two minutes, mostly to parents or friends.
Never during school (unless the T1 is as slow as hell or it's an emergency), never during movies, never during those coding sprees and never when i'm at the apple store except to show people how to use a T68i with the AluBook :p

Yeah. it's pretty neat how they're using stem cells to repair his heart (not embryonic). I'm still trying to figure out how he could have pulled that off. Nails don't have any stability and not enough weight to do anything but surface damage at any distance. He would have had to practically hit him with the gun.

Yup. Well actually, I think it appears if you have the driver installed (my experience anyhow).

Well I could start bemoaning the foolishness of 15 year olds with large cell phone plans again.:D :D ;)
However, back to the original topic, I would suggest you get a barebones phone for the time being. The technology is still evolving and it's really not worth it to get a phone that may be heading in the wrong direction a few years from now. Besides all the wireless web, im'ing, text messaging, games, etc that seem so cool can really end up costing a lot more in the long run (as has already been pointed out).
