so- i'm using a friends machine

here's the problem

when i use safari
w/ some sites
(specifically amazon.com)

it will start to load the website
and then stop
the blue bar will be 3/4ths of the way across the screen and then just stop

if i click 'stop'
it will display about half the site - minus images...etc
and then sorta work- but not really-

BUT- in Internet Explorer- it works every time
havn't tried Opera or Firefox

i'm sure this is some simple 'allowances' issue
but i don't know how to fix my friends machine

he's using an
1.8ghz imac g5
512 ram
os 10.3.9
----

my friend is a pretty novice user
however i could tell him to try firefox/opera and he might be fine with it

however- i'd like to keep him happy on Safari

any ideas?
thanks

Safari is a great browser, but it's not the most compatible I've found. In fact, it's pretty limited in compatibility...

I would suggest a move to Firefox. It may not be quite as pretty as Safari, but it works beautifully...

Try opening the activity window (look under the window menu) to see what the hang up is.

Amazon works well with my version of Safari (admittedly I'm on the more recent 2.0.4). Maybe get your friend to try some of these tips for speeding up Safari (http://guides.macrumors.com/Speed_up_Safari). :)

Same here, no problems with Amazon and I am running Safari 2.0.3. :)
