They are a bunch of hoes.

http://www.delafont.com/music_acts/Music_Images/p-dolls1.jpg

The song Stick Wit U was absolutely horrid, and I was not fond of Don't Cha, but I absolutely love them in buttons and beep.

Buttons:

I'm tellin' you loosen up my buttons babe
...
I'm a sexy mamma (Mama)
Usually get wat i wanna (Wanna)

I must say, I'm totally digging this overt sexuality! I'm not straight, so I'm not attracted to them, but the sexuality in their music and especially in their videos is totally entertaining:

The video for Buttons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO9Zv_aNju0)

Beep:

Chorus:
Guy

You got a real big heart, but I'm looking your...
You got real big brains, but I'm looking at your...
Girl, there ain't no pain in me looking at your...

'Cause it don't mean a thing if you're looking at my...
I'm a do my thing while you're playing with your...
Ha, ha-ha, ha-ha, ha-ha

Sleazy, filthy, dirty! I love it!

So many artists have these subdued sexual undertones in their music, and it's refreshing to hear a group that isn't afraid to sing, dance, and act totally filthy. Nothing's subdued at all.

They are actually quite talented performers. They are great dancers, they are gorgeous and in amazing shape, and they aren't bad singers. Given the way they dance while they perform, it's amazing that they aren't all out of breath. I, for one, am impressed.

Sad Fact: I know every last word to "don'tcha."
I don't know why, I hate the song, but I just know the words.

At prom, they played the beep song. Since it's so repetitive, I learned the chorus after 2 lines.. I sang it loud and I sang all the expletives.

I'm entertained quite easily.

I do not like them, though. Not my cup of tea.

LOVE THEM! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!

I have such weird music tastes.. Love Madonna, Kanye West, Sarah McLachlan, Alicia Keys - basically all Hip-Hop and R&B, most Pop stuff (not the cheesy like 10-year-old-dancing-in-your-room-Pop, I mean Club-Pop - out to dance), really into Dance as well.

I guess I just don't have a taste. But PCD's are SUPER!

At first when I heard about them I thought to myself "Is this for real?", but now they are everywhere. Are they much more than strippers with microphones? I agree that buttons is catchy, but it seems like the main chorus is basically just "Uhs" and "Oohs" in suggesting and overtly sexual manners.

Are they much more than strippers with microphones?

They're much better than strippers - trust me, I am one  :D. They dance much better than most strippers, and they're not horrible vocally. I'm too lazy to look for it, but there's a video of them singing buttons a capella, just standing there not dancing, and it's not bad at all.

And considering that they sound decent live while they dance like they do as they sing is impressive to me. It's surprising they aren't out of breath within the first minute. Those girls are in really good shape.

uggh. utter trash and rubbish in my opinion.

Exactly! But that's what makes them fun! :D

And me with you! Nekkid! :D

I can't count the number of times this song has played at clubs I've been to. It's okay for dancing, but the beat and the vocal stylings really get on my nerves when I'm not dancing. And I didn't like the video much, it wasn't slutty enough.

I just saw them tonight. i was having dinner w/ some friends and lo and behold, the table right beside us was closed off by some security types and one by one the members of the group and their entourage started filling up the seats of the table. musically, they might suck but the girls looked absolutely fantastic! I expected them to be a bit taller. not that it really matters. :p heck, they're fine! we asked the security if we could have our pics taken w/ them but they politely refused; they said that if they were'nt eating, they would have allowed us. oh well. :(

The Pussycat Dolls are holding auditions for a seventh member to join their group. The auditions will be part of a reality TV series, ala Rock Star, to be aired on the new CW network.

Anyone else interested in auditioning?

The soon-to-launch CW network has ordered eight episodes of the reality competition The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll, pitting wannabes against each other for the chance to be named the seventh member of the "Don't Cha" pop group.

"At its core, this show goes beyond just finding a new Pussycat Doll; it's about female empowerment, self-discovery and personal transformation," said Dawn Ostroff, CW's president of entertainment.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - They've bumped and grinded and sung their way to the top and on Tuesday night the raunchy girl band The Pussycat Dolls break into the world of TV reality to find a new member -- and promote girl power along the way.

"The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll," an eight-episode reality series on the CW network, offers one aspiring singer-dancer the chance to join one of the most-talked about acts of the past 18 months.

Best known for the refrain "Don't cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me?" from their first hit single, the six scantily clad Dolls started out as an exotic dance club troupe in Los Angeles and have gone on score top 10 hits in 14 countries.

"Don't Cha" was good then Busta (right?) drops his verse and ruins the song. As a matter of fact all the singles I've heard feature a guy ruining the song.

And after Nicole Scherzinger (sp?) solo album drops, which is basically what the Pussycat Dolls first record was anyway, what will be the point of the Pussycat Dolls? Don't tell me dancing.

And someone else said Spice Girls, Act II? Actually, the Spice Girls are going to be the Spice Girls, Act II. They're reforming for a greatest hits album and a tour don't you know? All of them, unlike the lame Smashing Pumpkins "reunion".

 i can't believe you all r saying this. PCD isn't about being a hoe. They are acctually pretty good singers and r in good shape. If you got it, flaunt it. And it's a lot better having these songs then dancing to a song about a guy ***** a girl. Has anyone even fully listened to all their songs? I don't need a man is all about being independant and not having to rely on a man. And so what if they wear not the most covering clothes? girls around the world do the same thing, so why can't they? and without them, who else would b brave enough 2 face sites like these bashing them? They r so strong and independant. Listen to the other half of their songs rather than the ones that r easy to ridicule.

lyrics to I don't need a man:
You know I got my own life
And I bought everything that's in it
So if you want to be with me
It ain't all about the bling you bringing
I want a love that's for real
And without that, no deal
And baby I don't need a hand
If it only wants to grab one thing

Lyrics to Wait a Minute:
Boy, why you tripping like that?
You think 'cause you tricking you get it just like that?
Wait a minute

Stickwitu
Nobody gonna love me better
I must stick with you forever.
Nobody gonna take me higher
I must stick with you.
You know how to appreciate me
I must stick with you, my baby.
Nobody ever made me feel this way
I must stick with you.

DOn't Cha:
Fight the feeling (fight the feeling)
Leave it alone (leave it alone)
'Cause if it ain't love
It just ain't enough to leave my happy home (my happy home)
Let's keep it friendly (let's keep it friendly)
You have to play fair (you have to play fair)

Oh, yeah, these lyrics are Really bad...(note: sarcastic comment)

What? Since when are "artists" these days subdued about their sexuality? It's almost like it's the only talent most of them have anymore. The only thing these guys are doing is one-upping Britney Spears and her ilk in the departments of acting like sluts and having zero talent. Yeah, nothing subdued and definitely nothing to be interested in.

Don't judge them against the mediocre people who call themselves artists, look at Josh Groban, Katherine McPhee, Diana Krall... there are MANY talented people out there.

If you're looking for some artists who are more 'in' with the 14-year-old crowd, i think that Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys should suffice for another example.

"I would guarantee most of what they are singing is with backing tracks" ...if u havent seen them and ur not their manager then u cant guarentee that. I suggest u get some evidence b4 u claim something. then u can try to prove ur point

Youtube a live performance of the pussycat dolls, tell me what you think about that singing. With that said, no not all their performances are back tracks. I think that that was an assumption which was made purely upon appearance.

With that said, I agree that the lyrics are indeed powerful. However, their image and portrayal of themselves negates the impact of the songs that they sing.

One more thing, the PCD are evolutionary, not revolutionary. Women's empowerment is now an old concept in music and in your generation it has been dramatically reshaped/distorted by the likes of Britney Spears.

sccrdiva303
Nov 30, 2007, 07:17 PM
i agree that there are many talented people out there, but you can not exclude this group from them. Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys are good, but those two aren't going to satisfy everyone's wants in my age group. And i also agree their lyrics are powerful, but their clothing isn't supposed to be slutty-revealing. They want it to be more of a self-esteem look, showing they can wear those outfits and still think they're pretty in their own skin. As Robin Antin says, "It's about female empowerment, and about being confident with who you are. It's about singing and dancing in front of a mirror by yourself and having fun.' also, I don't think it is fair to ridicule only pcd and saying they changed how women are thought of when so many other celebs and even regular teens have done this, to society and to themselves.

CRAZYBUBBA
Nov 30, 2007, 07:33 PM
I think that we're on the same page here.. with the exception of the way that you understand their manner of dress.

So Robyn says: "It's about female empowerment, and about being confident with who you are. It's about singing and dancing in front of a mirror by yourself and having fun.'

Okay now can we accept this statement as true? The answer is no, no because you cannot prove nor disprove what she is saying. in grad school we call this a falsification test.

However, allow me to present some cases..

Exhibit A (For macnut)

http://www.americanidolworship.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/Katharine-McPhee-Rachel-Bilson.jpg

Exhibit B
http://craigshawgardner.com/blog/images/pcd.gif

Which is exhibiting more self confidence, empowerment and having more fun in general? For the record i just picked the first picture from google's search in order to be fair.

Also, both "have it" so they are equally capable of "flaunting it" but that doesn't mean that the flaunting has to be perpetual.

Should I even mention how the PCD's expression of female empowerment is pretty much looking like the perfect male sexual fantasy? :D

The song is co-written by a producer who happens to be a man.

Irony: 1
PCD: 0

;)

ya so what if its CO-written by a man? they dont have to rely on him. There are plenty of other talented women who could have helped to write the song, also.

Exhibit B

Which is exhibiting more self confidence, empowerment and having more fun in general? For the record i just picked the first picture from google's search in order to be fair.

Also, both "have it" so they are equally capable of "flaunting it" but that doesn't mean that the flaunting has to be perpetual.

so, they both have it and can flaunt it. The only difference is that in 'exhibit a' they are being more descrete about it and may be doing it in a less controversal way ,while PCD is doing it more up-front and in-your-face to show it.

Personally, I'm more in favor of the "up-front and in-your-face" tactic... especially when there are brass poles and $1 bills involved. :D

2 questions:

1. So why wasn't the song written by a woman if they're such feminists

2. So if I don't wear a shirt during the summer is that indicative of me empowering myself?

My argument: These styles of dress would only be deemed as empowering if womens' right to dress were restricted. Ergo if the PCD were living in Saudi Arabia. This is not the case in America. By Robin's own admission they are a 'burlesque' group and ergo cannot be accepted as symbols of women's empowerment.

but we could argue that women's rights are kind of restricted in society by the fact that if a woman does wear something that is even the little bit revealing, they are instantly considered a slut and if theyre too overdressed theyre considered like morman or w/ev (no offense to anyone that is) and they aren't going to hire an all new song writer 4 this one song when they have produced so many top hits. and they rnt strippers ( to lethalwolf) theyre professional singers and dancers who happen 2 b makin more than dollar bills while keeping their clothes ON

try 14 not 12 :-D

My apologies, sccrdiva303, I just made a random guess. Actually now that I've read a few more of your posts you do sound older than 12.
Good job, by the way, holding your own against all these other people in this little debate. Although I'm not a huge fan of the type of music the Pussycat Dolls sing and I don't necessarily agree with your interpretation of their portrayal of the female body, I'm impressed that you can present your argument and not let anyone intimidate you into changing your mind. So keep it up! Don't let these guys trash talk your band, and welcome to MR!

If you got it, flaunt it.

Hoes or not, the lead singer is the sexiest, most breathtakingly beautiful singer right now. Superior genes through inter-racial breeding. :p

viva inter-racial breeding.

(do i sound bored? not my cup of tea. i hate these no-brainer-pop-songs.)

I agree. You have argued your case very soundly and articulately.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about our definitions of women's empowerment.

Debates are fun, but there's a lot of other interesting stuff going on here too. I'm guessing you're a Mac user, or an iPod user, if you found these forums. What sort of setup do you have? If you feel like it, head on over to the New Member thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=324933) and introduce yourself. Although the posters on these boards are dominantly male, there are also quite a few girls here too and even a few that are around your age.

I will agree that for a 14 year old she did argue her case better then some of the older members here.

Back on topic, I think the PCD is nothing more then a way to sell sex, not that I have a problem with it just that the age group that is being targeted might be a little off. I think the group was originally aimed at men in vegas.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_pussycat_dollsThe Pussycat Dolls are an American hip hop, pop, and R&B, and dance and burlesque ensemble founded by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995. It began as a dance troupe based in Los Angeles, was "re-cast" as a music group in 2003, and expanded in 2005 with a parallel troupe at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.Sources claim that Robin Antin began exploring the idea of a modern burlesque troupe in 1993 with her friend Christina Applegate.[1][2] The dance troupe's first performance was in 1995. During this period, they performed with numerous guest vocalists, with a repertoire of 1950s and 1960s pop standards while dressed in lingerie or old-fashioned pin-up costumes.
They secured a Thursday night residency at Los Angeles nightclub The Viper Room, where they stayed from 1995 to 2001. The troupe received wider press coverage in June 1999, when Playboy ran a Pussycat Dolls pictorial, featuring at least seven contemporary members. Three years later, the Dolls moved to The Roxy. The group became internationally popular and was featured in magazines, television specials for MTV and VH1, ad campaigns, and movies. Some of the Pussycat Dolls appeared in the 2003 film Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, dancing to "The Pink Panther Theme".
Carmen Electra was the group's lead performer for many of their shows. She said: "I was part of the Dolls for two years and did every show with them... but financially, I couldn't become part of their new music project... It was a financial sacrifice I couldn't make."[3] However, she did make a cameo appearance in the music video for "Don't Cha". In 2003, Electra formed another burlesque troupe called The Bombshell Babies, which included ex-Dolls Staci Flood and Nadine Ellis.
With the involvement of music producers Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair, the Pussycat Dolls were re-cast, transformed into a pop and R&B recording group, and became employees of Iovine's label Interscope Records. The only troupe member who remained after the re-casting process was Carmit Bachar.

Well enjoy your time listening to some pop ditty. Nothing wrong with that as most people at some point of their lives get engulfed by it. (my girlfriend included)

If you are looking at songs filled with sexual innuendo then I would like to bring some to your knowledge and these are great ones too.

1. You shook me all night long - AC/DC
It contains the immortal line. SHE WAS A FAST MACHINE. SHE KEPT HER MOTOR CLEAN.
what can you say to that.
2. Whole lotta love - LED ZEPPELIN
WAY DOWN INSIDE HONEY YOU NEED IT, I'M GOONA GIVE YOU MY LOVE.
3. The lemon song - LED ZEPPELIN
SQUEEZE MY LEMON TILL THE JUICE RUNS DOWN MY LEG.
