SeaDoo Reliability?

My dad is considering a seadoo, but many stores say they are unreliable junk.

Is this true?

I just don't believe them, another friend has one and it is perfect.

In my experience/from what I've heard they like to conk out randomly, plug up with seaweed at the intake (on the bottom) and stall.

On top of that, if you're not extremely careful, they can be very dangerous.

My boyfriend has a Sea-Doo XP. Beautiful, super fast, very very reliable. We have had no problems, even our old mid 90's machine. Our Sea-Doo boat is also great. Get one. Or three.

EDIT: And yes, OutThere, they can be very dangerous, especially at high speeds. Thats why they're so fun.

Truth, but they're not cool when local gov't starts putting down lots of safety regulations that effect everyone because people on SeaDoos don't know how to drive.

From my experience, although limited, SeaDoo's are very reliable if you do the regular maintenance. I've also heard some very good things about the Honda watercraft as well. It's my experience that you can't go wrong with a Honda product...

Although I don't own one, I have never seen one broken down or anything. My only complaint is that our boat makes a fair amount of wake, and these people on them will drive right towards you and go over the wake several times. They do look dangerous. Especially when doing that and launching themselves into the air!

Good point, but you can't blame this on the Seadoo, it is just how people use them. :)

Does Honda Marine make a jetski(seadoo)like watercraft? I do love honda, they have great Japanese reliability.

I believe pretty much any vehicle that goes in the water is high maintenance. Most of the ones I think are SeaDoo. Either people like them or they are cheep.

I made this mistake once on a jetski. Got knocked right off. I'm lucky to be alive. :eek:

I love jumping wakes from boats, lots of fun. I've been submerged a few times from jumping the wake and then hitting the trough of the wake. Some people may not enjoy it but I think it's lots of fun.

My dad and I tend to take ggod care to our watercraft.

We have a boat with a Mercury MerCruiser AlphaOne v6@205Hp. For where we are, this is wayy too much horses. The 2005 Seadoo wake@155HP is perfect.

My family has owned 3 in the past 5 years. We have gotten new ones every year or two not becuause of them breakigng but because of my dad's and my own obsession with H.P. and speed. We went from the standard 75H.P. (or whatever) model to the RXP 215 H.P. MONSTER. I've only taken the thing up to 75 mph, but could feel it had a lot left to contribute. It is onew of the most well built piece of watercraft I have ever owned (after growing up with a beach house and all categories of watercraft). I would highly recommend a sea-doo over a yamaha or honda, They are under developed pos's. go with the doo, you wont be dissappointed.

I have had lots of experience with Sea-doo since my family is on the water every weekend and most weekdays. My Aunt had one of the first sit down models and if she wasnt trying to get it stated at the ramp, it was in the shop getting something worked on. Friends of ours had 97 and 98 XP models. Both of them had the exhaust pipes come loose from the motors and cause damage and nearly sank one. We came across a good deal on the new 3D models through a wholesaler. We bought 2 and picked them up in the factory shipping crate. They seemed cool at first because they were the fully loaded models with all the bells and whistles. Within the first 6 hours of riding them they were both broke. On one when you take off the impeller sucks air and falls off plane. The other developed a severe knocking (the flywheel came loose and was damaged). when we contacted sea-doo about the warranty that was suppost to be on them we were told they werent covered. These models were not suppost to sold in the USA. Now we are sitting on almost $7000 in skis and trailers and neither one runs!
