Shutting macbook lid while shutting down.

When you choose to shutdown your macbook is it okay to just shut the lid "after you have clicked on shut down", or will it put go into sleep mode and stop the shut down, or will it do something different.

It's generally best to wait for it to shut down before shutting the lid. You don't want to confuse the poor thing... ;)

Thanks, I just learned (in another post) that its okay to transport it while in sleep-mode so I dont think I will even bother shutting it down anymore:)

That is correct. There have been occasional reports of notebooks popping open while in transport and thus waking up, which could lead them to overheat due to lack of ventilation, but the new magnetic closure system may reduce that. They were rare anyway, and didn't do any harm the vast majority of the time.

With a little edit in Terminal you can stop waking from sleep when the lid is opened. I don't like the idea of the lid opening while traveling, hard drive spins up and backpack is bouncing about. :eek:

Open terminal and type:

sudo pmset -a lidwake 0

Then restart and test the lid doesn't wake from sleep.

Just check that is the right thing to type in though because I'm no expert with terminal and wouldn't want to be responsible for messing up someone's computer.
