Recently my Firewire devices won't mount on my black Macbook. The devices show up in the system profiler but not in disk utility. I have tried a compact flash card reader and lacie firewire drive with the same result. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Start with the basics.
1. Repair permissions
2. Zap PRAM (command-option-P-R on startup)
3. Shake your machine and curse at it.

That get you anywhere?

Create a new user to see if it is user error, ie loading something that kills FW volumes.

So far my experience with Mac technical support has been

1. turn the power off
2. unplug everything
3. turn the power on
4. repeat, possibly holding down a key or two

or with Apple Store/Apple Repair and my last powerbook

1. Apple store says it is definitely the logic board
2. Apple replaces logic board twice
3. Apple says it is not the logic board after replacing logic board does not solve problem. It is the hard drive causing the problem and they want $900 to replace
4. Apple sends the computer back to me on my dime

Not to mention that I bought the current Macbook based on their assesment that my previous one was dead.
