How do you find out the frames per second while you are playing games?

Different games have different commands which you would put in the console to get.

So google the game and look for an fps command.

It depends on the game you are playing. Here are the ones I know:

Quake 3 based games (Q3, Call of Duty, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc): open the console (press the ~ key), type "cg_drawfps 1" without the quotes, and hit Enter

Doom 3 and Quake 4: Open the console (hit Ctrl + Alt + ~), type "com_showfps 1" without quotes, and hit Enter

UT2K3/4 based games: Open the console (press the ~ key), type "stats fps" without quotes, and hit Enter

World of Warcraft: press Ctrl + R

I wish there was a program like FRAPS for Mac that would allow us to see the FPS on games that don't have the option to display them: like Command & Conquer Generals
