macbook vs macbook pro

I am typying on a black macbook ultimate. As stated in a previous post I returned a 15 macbook pro due to a bad logic board and picked up the macbook. Don't know what to do, return the macbook and get a new macbook pro with a good logic board. I dont do any graphic intensive work but like the pro and bigger screen. am I be silly.

Being silly! You had it, then you returned it (it had a bad logic board, but they would've repaired it) and bought a MB and now you want a MBP again.

I would say, if you REALLY want the MBP, then get it. You'll just probably be thinking about it the whole time while using a MB (..or maybe not). However, we better not see a new thread a few weeks later saying that you bought a MBP but now think a MB is a better choice! :p

I'd sayit depends on the type of environment you will be using the laptop in. I am in college and I have an iMac G5 and I bought a MacBook Pro this spring. I love my MacBook Pro, but I must admit I was jealous when the new MacBooks came out. True, there are people that will point out that there are not many technological differences between the two machines. While this is true on the surface, the differences that are there do make a large difference between the performance of the machines. For me, having the dedicated video card makes the MacBook Pro worth the extra money. Plus the larger screen and the ****ing sweet back-lit keyboard.

And what I meant by environment...I kind of wish the MacBook Pro was as durable as the MacBook. Lets face it: the MacBook Pro was meant to be used in an environment where it is relatively safe from harm. The MacBook, on the other hand, can take a bit of a beating.

As far as the "being able to take a beating" factor of the MacBook Pro, I wonder if this will still be true when they update? I was set on getting a MacBook but now I really like the 15" screen + backlit keyboard of the MacBook Pro. I too am a college student. Thoughts?

Well, just some further insight into my situation. I live off campus in my college town, so my house usually has people over on the weekend for drinks before we go to the bars. I always put my MacBook Pro away (stored on the top shelf of our living room library) so that nothing happens to it. I keep it stored in a case when transporting it around campus (or wherever I take it when I want to use it outside the house). It seems to me that with the MacBook, you wouldn't have to take some of the precautions I use in order to keep my MacBook Pro looking new and keeping it from internal/external damage. I had a PowerBook G4 before this, and it was essentially the same struggle. Just some thoughts for you.

I think of this and look at the MacBook, but then I take another look at that backlit-keyboard....sweet damn that is almost a tie breaker alone....
