new updates soon on MB, MBP, or iMac?

are there going to be any updates coming up on the macbook, MBP, or iMac?
if so, when?
i'm wondering when to buy my mac, and i don't want to buy something and then have it replaced by a faster model right away.
 
When I bought my MBP 1.83 GHz, apple removed it from the line up almost 3 weeks later. I didn't care in the slightest. It really doesn't matter....


The new merom processors will make their way into the products soon(ish), but it really isn't worth waiting for unless you want to work out Pi to 4 billion digits 20 secs quicker than the Core Duos.

Core 2 Duo (the new Merom version) is not a big improvement over Core Duo. They are both (allegedly) 64 bit, and the current benchmarks show Core 2 Duo to run around 15- 20 % faster, while showing no improvement at all in some areas. You will notice no difference in day to day tasks.

It really isn't worth waiting for! 😉

The only thing that will be changed (and this is a big change) is OS X Leopard, but that can always be purchased and installed at a later point.
 
I don't know, I think it's worth waiting 10 days just to hear what is going to happen with MBPs. I mean, 10 days is hardly anything to wait for. And I believe MBPs were built originally for Merom and that is why there was some malfunctioning with the thermal grease.

I could be totally wrong on that level but I would surely wait 10 days just to at least see what may happen.
 
I am wondering about the same thing. Should I wait the 10 days? I know it is highly unlikely that they will update the macbook line but there is always a what if.🙄
 
I'm kinda expecting a partial redesign for the MBP, which might make it less PowerBook G4-like but that's about the only thing other than the processor.
 
another thing to consider is that with new products you can usually expect delays. just something to consider
 
Apple's competitors, like Dell, etc. Are dropping Core 2 Duo consumer machines left and right. Apple has to make a move or be left behind. They can announce consumer updates without a big party, unless they are doing a redesign.

I don't see any major redesigns coming except for the MBP, which they can do at WWDC. That could be wrong though, as the iMac may be due for an update.

Wait the 10 days. If nothing big happens, or Apple doesn't give a Core 2 Duo roadmap at least. Buy or wait. You know it is coming. If you can wait, then wait.
 
What is going on in paris?? I thought they have the expo in jan and the one in 10 days? Am I missing something here. On a sidenote are they going to have a mobile quad core processor?

Or use iDVD or iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Photoshop, Final Cut, Garageband, just about any game, or anything that depends on the CPU... Merom is widely considered to be a very big and significant improvement over Yonah. PCs are already starting to migrate to it en masse and I think it would be insane to buy a MBP right now with a significant upgrade probably mere days away... unless all you plan on using it for is web browsing and email, in which case why not just buy a used TiBook instead and save $1000.
 
Breakfastcrew, The whole point of an announcement is they announce things. We have no idea what they are going to announce, it is all just speculation. As someone said, you will most likely see a MBP with merom announced.

I really would suggest you wait the 10 days but it's up to you.
 
Apple Expo in Paris is being held September 12-16, 2006. This event will most likely see the light of Macbook Revision B with the new Merom processors, and possibly MBP Revisions if they aren't already updated at WWDC.

However, my advice to you is don't wait. Get what you want now. As many people have already noted the minute you buy a computer it becomes obsolete. Technology changes so fast. Many people waited for the WWDC for many months, and what now? After the WWDC comes the Apple Expo, in just 1 more month and then there will be something else after that. The updates never stop and if you wait you will never buy anything. That's just my two cents.

As for the Merom processor, I agree that a 15-20% performance increase is not worth waiting for so many months, especially if youre going after a Macbook. If you're going to use your laptop for normal everyday college use and not extremely CPU intensive tasks I don't think it's going to make that much of an impact. I think waiting a few extra seconds for a certain program is better than waiting for a period of months and be without a computer, if you don't have one already.

That's what I think. However the WWDC is less than 10 days away, so it would be a logical action to at least wait till until after that. In any case apple has been known to include the bumps and upgrades after 1 or 2 weeks of their major events, so you might just not see anything at all at WWDC.

My advice, If you absolutely can't wait, go for it. If you can manage it, at least hold on till a few days after August 11th.

Wrong answer. All Macs are obsolete the moment it is shipped. However most other PC manufacturers allow you to BTO with a greater degree of control over what you will end up getting, and yes, that means you can take an "obsolete" computer at lower cost. With Apple you are entirely at their whim until they decided to release an update. See the difference? You can also choose to buy right before an update, but that'd really make you a big.....

Correct as you might be, but the point I was trying to get across was that it isn't really worth waiting for just the Macbook, since it's very unlikely to see an update, and if you wait till Apple Expo.....well, there will be something else around the corner after that.

However the WWDC is almost here. Just hold your horses and wait anyway just to be sure......

But then sometimes Apple releases updates a few weeks after WWDC. Aaaaarrrrrgggh!!! It's a vicious cycle of Consumer money lynching >_>

And sadly I'm a big part of it.
 
I actually quite strongly suspect they'd update the MBP before the MB though. At least that's what I am counting on 🙂

Well think about it, if they refresh both lines together, it is not like the difference will be all that huge, there will still be very little separating the premium line from the regular notebooks. However if they refresh the MBPs at WWDC it gives that line almost a full month busking in the limelight, without having the MB undermining its supremacy 😀

To be honest, no one knows! even though we can speculate, we could be wrong!
 
I don't get the people who advice to buy now.. It's getting replaced soon, and unless you can get the current model cheaper I would keep my money and see what's going to happen at the WWDC.

I think all the people who advice to buy now, just bought them self a mac only to find out it's getting replaced soon 😉

Some people here have their monies more than multiply by 4 times in the past 2 years, thanks to Apple shares. It is in their best interests that this trend goes on 🙄

Me too... something to make them more "like" the MacBooks... in metal finish, of course...

With easier access to RAM and HD, like the MacBooks...
