Combo Drive not working

I have a 12" G4 1.5 Powerbook, with a Combo drive - "MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8123"

When i put a CD in, it takes it, but then nothing happens. It does not spin or even attempt to, it does nothing. Then about 8 seconds after putting it in, it spits the CD back out again. No CD or DVD works at all.

Any ideas on what the problem may be? It is almopst 16 months old now.

I have the same drive in my PowerBook 15 inch.

It is also about the same age and I have never had that exact problem.

Mine is kind of loud sometimes, and sometimes it wont mount the CD, but I just eject it and put it back in, and it works like a charm.

Do you have AppleCare?

Sadly not. I was going to get it about 10months down the line after buying it, but completely forgot about it as i had no problems lol. And tis acutally more like 18 months old I just realised.
