I never actually use writable DVD's for anything but in the next couple of weeks I need to burn some big ones. First question: Is my 17" MBP a Dual Layer drive, and if it is do I need some special software to write (data) to it? As you may be able to tell I don't have the Dual Layer media yet to experiment with. In fact I've only bought some writable (single layer) DVD-RW's today and planned to be fiddling about with them later but just wanted to be sure.

If your looking for an external drive lucid drives look awesome. They're made by MCE, not that I'm spamming.

In answer to a portion of the question, yes, the 17" MBP drive is dual layer. The 15" one isn't because it didn't fit.
