Hey!
I think I got the answer.
You have to buy something off the Macrumors store to get the Demi-God status.
I came to this conslusion because... Indygopher had the Demi-God status, and he posted that his items from Macrumors had arrived.
So, I'm off to buy something... well, ill think about it.
Or... maybe he got the status because he was the first one to buy??

Demi God is if you donate or buy something from the store I think. Although, I am purposely not buying because I want to get to proper god status without spending money.

Demi-God is for those who purchase a contributer's mug (or the equiv donation)
http://www.macrumors.com/contrib.html
Other benefits may come as well... (TBA)
The benefits last approx 1 year beyond donation/purchase.
I think it's appropriate that these people get perks - as they are supporting macrumors and allowing it to continue to exist...
you still don't get an Avatar as a donator - that is still post dependant.

I find the use of the word "god" as a status offensive and sacreligious.

apologies for the offense...
it's not intended to be offensive... (hence the lowercase 'g')
http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=god
1. God
a. A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and
ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in
monotheistic religions.
b. The force, effect, or a manifestation or aspect of this being.
not me...
2. A being of supernatural powers or attributes, believed in and worshiped by a people, especially a male deity thought to control some part of nature or reality.
in this world, I do have supernatural powers... ability to delete posts at will.... the worship is optional...
3. An image of a supernatural being; an idol.
4. One that is worshiped, idealized, or followed: Money was their god.
naw...
5. A very handsome man.
6. A powerful ruler or despot.
I particularly like #5.... but #6 will do.
Seriously, though... this is simply a microcosm... and roles/aspects of these forums should not be taken literally.

Thank you for your reply, Arn. May I request that should I purchase an item from the store that my status be changed to "demi-despot"?

:) Yes... for those who are offended by the demi-god reference may have a neutral "pc" version - "demi-despot"...
If you do purchase a mug, please email me your forum name... otherwise I have no way of correlating real-names and forumnames. (there is at least 1 person who has purchased a mug and not emailed me)

I think I'm going to have to buy a Mug now. That status is just too cool.
Now is there any way to grease some palms and earn instant Avatar status??? I've got a whole lot of monopoly money burning a hole in my pocket.

We may be on to something... What about it Arn? Can I purchase "Simulated Sage" status for ...oh say, $25?
Or what about "Ancillary Authoritarian" for $15?
