It says that Verizon my get rid of the price per month and just have fee per song. Perhaps they know of a competitor that may be coming soon? The iTunes Music Store Mobile maybe with the iPhone?

Isee a mention of dropping the $15 monthly fee, and that the Chocolate phones won't have MP3 playback disabled. Where does it say they won't charge for WMA downloads any more?

Who this really hurts is Sprint and their competing Power Vision. Verizon already had them beat on the per-track price, but now Sprint will need to look at that profitable little monthly service charge.

I doubt that they know of any competition from Apple since Apple guards their secrets like the nuclear codes. My guess is that Verizon saw the success of the pay-per-song model and decided it was best for them. People probably were not keen on paying a monthly subscription for the few songs they actually downloaded to their phones.
