What kind of docks do you like?
Maybe you can PM the people that you think have nice docks or something.

Here are some tools for customizing your dock...

ClearDock (http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/cleardock)
TinkerTool (http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html)

That's all I can think of for now. Only 2, but there's a lot you can do with those (with the dock).

EDIT: If you are on an Intel computer, you might have to use Onyx or Cocktail because TinkerTool (I think) isn't Universal.

Just a little something extra I and quite a few others use blank Dock icons to separate out and organise our Dock-bound apps. You can download a set from Max Themes. (http://www.maxthemes.com/guistuff/?guistuff=Blank%20Dock%20Separators) :)

The problem is Transparent Dock doesn't work for Intel Macs, don't know why...:S

It isn't Universal, does ClearDock work for you?

Yes it does, though I prefer the look of Transparent Dock. Doesn't matter though.

I know but people don't post regular docks too.. I was hoping this would be more of a thread on mods of the dock and how they did it. and what not...

I use cleardock with all colors turned off (completely transparent). No apps live in my dock. I launch everything from QuickSilver. A few folders reside on the far right. I also modded the Finder and Trash Icons (google it for more info...). I like it.

I like the text docks! Those are awesome. I'm gonna make a set of them right now, for every single application I have, so I'll post it when I'm finished.

I'm a left-sider, using ClearDock and icons from Laurent Baumann, with spacers as well.

I also like the text icons for the Dock, and it's easy to add for some of the more obscure applications that usually don't make it into downloadable collections.

The readme is pretty good, but basically you should see them in column view in Finder

EDIT: Good to see you got it sorted :)

There blank gif's. Try adding details in finder, ie. file date or just mouse around.

edit: didn't see the nevermind, sorry.

nope, they are widgets. i made the actual desktop picture have a black stripe, so the whole entire thing sort of looks like a dock.

For Quicksilver see: http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/

Basically it is a small program that lets you quickly launch apps or other tasks from the keyboard. Handy for some, but not used by everyone.

For icons just google "os x icons" and poke around.

Cleardock & text icons are the only things that are done with the dock. I aligned it to the left with Onyx (you can do it with cocktail too). To the right of the trashcan or konfabulator widgets, iTunes Bar, widescapeTimeSerializer, widescapeWeather.widget, and then the thing showing album art comes with iTunesBar.

Text Icons (http://www.rokema.com/albert/TEXTCONS.zip) // direct link

ClearDock (http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/cleardock)

iTunes Bar (http://www.widgetgallery.com/view.php?widget=32430) // [skin : Transparent White; included]

widescapeTimeSerializer & widescapeWeather (http://www.widescape.net/widgets/)

the black bar at the bottom is part of the desktop, well actually I EDITED the desktop to have the black bar, which is just a black bar with a gradient in the top to make it look glossy.

align the dock to the left with TinkerTool, Cocktail, or Onyx.

I know you can but it never looks like anything like OS X does... XP doesn't even feel sleek and sweet like OS X does even if I got some themes for it...

I've been on Macrumors, but i'm still a Newb to the whole new Mac thing so could you explain somethings to me.

Is that finder on the far left? and Why is it colored that way?

What are the other icons you have. Tiger thingy, and Dog thing, and I suppose (dont laugh) the thing to the right of the finder thing.

I usually keep my dock hidden and use QuickSilver to launch everything... so my dock is pretty minimal:

not a problem, here's my dock with everything labeled.

finder looks like that because i used candybar (http://www.panic.com/candybar/) to change the icon. i believe its possible to change the finder icon without candybar, but its really hard and i wasnt able to figure it out. trash and dashboard are other icons that are hard to change. the other ones are pretty simple.

if you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask here or shoot me a pm.

you can remove quicksilver from the dock if you want. just go to quicksilver's preferences, then general, and uncheck "show icon in dock". you can put it in the menu bar if you prefer it there, but it will still run even if you dont have it in the dock or menu bar.

About the only thing custom about my dock is that it's clear, and I have neat Steve Jobs Mail icon.

How did you get the weather bar thing to give you more than just the current forcast?
