After hemming and hawing about sending my Macbook in without backing up my HD, I finally ran down to Fry's and managed to pick up their last SATA 2.5" drive. I slipped that into the bay and sent it in for repair.
They DO make you sign a repair order releasing them from damaging your data, so it's just as well I replaced the HD.
This was on July 27.
So far its status is STILL "On hold - Part on order (28-Jul-2006)".
They're replacing the logic board, heat sink, part of the plastic case and some sort of bezel. Sheesh.
