Hi Guys,

I have a MPB, and its Hard Drive is dying a slow, painful death. It's still working now, but is making the same sounds that an external hard drive I had did right before it died.

I've got it all backed up, so if it does go, I'm not screwed.

I'm a graphic designer and cannot afford to send it into Apple and lose two or three days without the computer. I do have a 3 year Apple Care plan. If my HD is actually dying, can the guys at the Apple Store replace it for me under the Apple Care plan?

Call them. If they have the part in stock then they should do thier best to fix it. I don't think they'll do it in one day though. A lot of work goes into replacing a MBP HDD... ask for a loner... sometimes instead they'll just replace the computer!
 
Apple will certainly give you a new hard drive, as long as you didn't drop your MBP or something.

I've also heard of them supplying "loaner" replacement laptops to people who seriously cannot go without their laptops for a few days.

Sometimes it can take weeks for a hard drive to completely die though...mine took about a month and a half since it started making weird noises. Apple also refused to fix it until it completely died, since it worked intermittently enough so that it passed their hardware tests.

Just keep your stuff backed up, and try to rig things so that you can afford to go a few days without it sometime in the near future.
