Hi,
You can still buy the powermac g5.
It is avaible at the apple online store.
Just look futher down the page in the left side and it you will see it.
 
Call me crazy but for some strange reason, I actually want a G5 more now than I did before the Mac Pros were announced.

I think it has something to do with a fondness for PowerPC architecture and the end of an era.....

Even the MacPro would smoke a Power Mac on Photoshop even in Rosetta...

Not everything runs perfectly in Rosetta. This is a big change for some IT departments in how these machines deal with applications. There may be some resistance and a last minute rush to get PowerPC systems to delay/ease the transition until more universal apps are released. Not to mention any in-house developed tools that some companies might use that have not been updated to be universal.

There will be some lingering PowerPC demand as companies transition and as long as Apple has stock they will gladly take the money.

Cause PowerPC is beautiful and RISC....x86 is ugly and backwards and unapple-like.
 
Yeah, if they were cheap, I would probably buy one. They are plently powerful for what I need! - i think...

I'll reserve final judgement until I see some BareFeats benchmarks, but highly unlikely, even with the significant speed boost. Remember that a singlel processor G4 powerbook at 1.4GHz generally outperforms a dual-core 2.16GHz Core duo on Photoshop on the Mac--Rosetta is an amazing technology, but it's not THAT amazing, and the Xeon 5100s aren't THAT much faster than the G5.

Well as of today you can only get the Quad Powermac G5. The Dual 2.0 and 2.3 have been removed as of this morning.
 
If they reduced the old machines significantly I would definitly get one. The main selling point for x86 machines for me is bootcamp .. but I can live without windows🙂

I'd buy it instead of a MacBook Pro that I'm waiting for... but I can't find a deal like that around here.

A Power Mac G5 Quad for only $2,100! 😱 That is a great deal for a super-fast machine! 😀
