iPod DVD's to iPod

Can I put my personal family DVD's or my "Friends" DVD's on to my iTunes and then to a video iPod??? Or do they have to be downloaded only from the iTunes Store on line?/

I have read the sticky on this. good post.
has anyone had any luck doing it with popcorn?

i used popcorn direct from 2 dvds with ease. then bam! 3rd and 4th dvd says it wont work with encrypted dvds. so i use mac the ripper and try to do it again in popcorn using the videots folder this time. i get a different mac error and popcorn closes.

any ideas?

After using MacTheRipper try Handbrake or Instant Handbrake to convert to mp4.

and THEN use Popcorn or just avoid Popcorn entirely?
