I have no clue what this is, but it's laggin up my eMac. So did stupid seti and I deleted it.

It's a kernel process. It's supposed to be there. And it's using 1.4% CPU... that's hardly a lot, is it? Hehehe, go ahead and kill it if you want, and have fun with the kernel panic, though. 😉

heh yeah really.

the kernel is THE process. To make a sagan-esque analogy, the kernel task is like the big bang. It came first, and all other tasks come from it.

I think he's refering to the Real Memory it takes up

Mine's at 116.23 MB...don't complain...

Yep...mine's at 126 MB of real memory plus 1.06 GB of virtual memory just a few minutes after a restart. It's completely normal.

This has got to be a joke post.

Mine's at 196.17 MB real memory and 1.62 GB virtual memory.

Hmm, on mine it actually won't let you kill it. I know what it is and why it's there, but I'm just bored and wouldn't mind a kernel panic.

I clicked "Quit Process" and it said that quitting it would affect the performance of my computer. Duh. Anyway, I clicked "Force Quit", and it asked me to authorize with my password. I did, and nothing happened. It seems my MAc is smart enough to hold its own. 🙂

It's the operating system! Don't you think it deserves a little memory? If it wasn't there, nothing else would get memory either.

47.78MB Real memory, 1.19GB virtual. NORMAL!

I dont care about virtual, but I'd kill for more RAM (even more than 2GB)-I hate using it all up.
