Imovie: Titles/effects

hello there, i was hoping someone could advise me on a specific problem i am having with imovie.

i can't seem to add effects (eg 'earthquake') to an existing title. it look sfine on th preview, but after rendering it just comes out white...

any help would be greatly appreciated!
