itunes is messed up!

when i play an album (ordered by track no.) for some reason itunes just plays the songs in a completely different order. it can't be random coz it's the same order each time the album is played (if i play track 1 and click skip it'll goto the same track every time)

why is this happening?

You've not got the random button clicked then?
 
At the bottom left corner of your iTunes window- make sure each option is deselected (not highlighted blue.)
 
The random or shuffle button, as the others have pointed out, should look like this
shuffle-off.png
and not like this
shuffle-on.png
... 🙂
