Okay, well does the light show solid if just the display is sleeping or does it give no response ever? Perhaps a cable was accidentally disconnected when you were changing the hard drive. Hopefully that's all it is. :)

well the light never seems to come on. maybe a wire did come loose, i don't know. i guess it's not that big of a deal, is it? i did turn on the machine before upgrading, and i don't remember the light coming on. but i'm not sure though

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it's a disconnected cable then it probably won't do any harm (so long as it doesn't short-circuit something). If you get bored, maybe open it up again and look for anything suspicious. :)

well i easily could have messed something up, because i had trouble upgrading the hard drive. i created a thread about it. if you want i can find it for you (if your interested, but its not a big deal). i don't think anything is really wrong with it that i'm upset about, just kinda wondering.

thanks for helping me out though

You mean this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=222591)? Maybe we should start at the beginning. Did you use a good iFixit guide (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/86.0.0.html)? :)

yep, that's the thread. and i did look at that guide, but it only shows taking everything apart, but not putting it back together (which is what i wanted to see)

Some people really bitch about their sleep lights. Saw one thread with somebody showing how to take apart an iBook to remove the cable. They'd be jealous of you!

Hehe... I'm one of those people. I haven't gotten quite to the point of taking the thing apart yet but I'm really considering it.

My powerbook lives on a desk in my bedroom, and that stupid pulsating LED usually lights up a good portion of my room at night. I'm really really susceptible to light though (all of the other LEDs in my room are covered with electrical tape, and I don't have an alarm clock that lights up).

You were just unable to do everything in the opposite direction?

i was able to do it (it's working now), but there are 2 black rubber pieces glued to the side of the inside of the casing (where you slide the hard drive in). somehow, when i went to slide my hard drive in, 1 of the black things on the side came off (wasn't glued very good) and so the hard drive wasn't going all the way in. i didn't know why it wasn't at first, so i just pushed harder. and harder.

i finally saw the black thing and got it out, and then everything worked fine

Crazy isn't it! Here's the thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=208359&highlight=ibook+sleep+light)

My MB and iMac both sleep in my room and the lights don't bother me. Or the other half for that matter, but she'll sleep through anything.
