hey does anyone know if you do a clean install when upgrading the OS (eg. 10.1 to 10.2) will iTunes loose its ID tags on my songs and will it also loose its play count and my rating scale?

if you do an "archive and install" everything will be fine. wiping out the hard drive and re-installing will trash them for good, but all of your user prefs will be transfered over with an archive install.

now what if i wanted to do a clean install of lets say 10.3 (when it comes out) and to completely wipe off OS 9 of my machine. Can i save itunes library file onto a cd and then just use it with the next major OS update. I really wouldn't want to do a archive install but at the same time I dont want to loose my ID3 tags on all my songs.

ID tags are attatched to the MP3 file, not stored in the system.

so i would simply loose the rating system and play count with a clean install.

is there anyway to back up the itunes library on cd?

Search for 'iTunes Music Library', and just backup that file... but you have to make sure you put the songs in the same location you have them now, or you would have to re-locate each song.

Exactly..... I frequently back up all my MP3's onto my external FW HD by that process, and it remembers everything!!
