Does anyone know of a good tutorial that will take me step by step, from the beginning to learn cocoa? I do not want to purchase a book.

If you want to get anywhere, you will have to buy more then just one book :) I can think of 4 that are really great :)

I recommend these 3 (in order)

Programming in Objective-c (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0672325861/sr=1-1/qid=1155626216/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-9300764-9535040?ie=UTF8&s=books)
Cocoa Programming For OS X (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321213149/sr=8-1/qid=1155611047/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-9300764-9535040?redirect=true&ie=UTF8)
Cocoa Programming (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0672322307/sr=1-2/qid=1155626243/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-9300764-9535040?ie=UTF8&s=books)

The last book is known as the Bible of Cocoa, but you should have learnt the basics first by reading the other 2 books, which are dedicated to Objective C and Cocoa respectively.

Yes, start with obj-c. It's a nice language to program with, and you need it if you want to make sense of cocoa.
Make some command line programs. Like writing hello world to the log, or writing and reading text to a file.
