That was a very confusing poll. I'm too young to get married now (I'm 16), but I plan to get married someday, so I voted yes. Maybe there should be a choice for "Not Right Now" or something like that.:D

Some say it's probably the ONLY "Oscar" I'm likely to get...

Oh yes, 8 years and counting. I met Sally in Uni in 1982, we went out for a while, then I dumped her for another girl and she didn't speak to me for two years:D
Still, we sorted it out a few years later and became best friends over a distance for 10 years or so (I was in the US for 3 years, then Japan), and then we got together in the early '90's.
My advice, marry your best friend (provided the sex thing is compatible obviously).
We have a daughter called Hannah who loves her eMac:D :D

Don't think it's legal in Hawaii. At least it wasn't a few years back when I was living there. The whole issue was in still in court. A lot of people seem to have that misunderstanding.

Yes! Shawna and I have been together since 1987, Our daughter Gabrielle will be 13 in July. They (my family) showed the Mac to me and I scoffed at first. Now I will not be bothered with cumbersome microsoft things any more. Not only is my wife beautiful and sort of exotic, but she is very intelligent. Enough to get me to switch! Who could ask for more than that?

No. Even though I have been with my partner 5 years, co-own a home with him, and have registered as Domestic partners in 3 separate jurisdictions, I cannot legally marry him anywhere in this country. 20 years from now we'll be the only western country banning it, and like with the death penalty, will be considered a nation of neaderthals.

Hear hear. I think it's kind of sad that the USA, which used to be a forerunner of human rights, is now behind so many countries in adopting this.

yes. Me and my wife got married in the parking lot of Meadowlands Arena, Rutherford NJ, after a show. 11-11-85 was the date. They playied an EPIC, Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the mountain > Estimated. And to top it all off we got a STELLAR Mr. fantasy after a playfull space. After that show getting married just seamed like a fitting end to the night. Me and Vic both wish we could go back and do that tour again. Man those were the days.
For our honeymoon we went on tour (again)
Their is nothing quite like making woopie in a tent pitched on a asphalt parking lot;)

I agree with paul, but I hope to see gay marrigies come about in my life time. (I'm 17) I find it hard to beleive all the opposition there is to it, esp. with my "peers".

I have to agree that the three options given don't quite cover it.
I am now married...had to get married to satisfy the INS who otherwise wouldn't let my partner into the US. Stupid rule. We Canadians are happy to allow common-law couples into Canada, but the US doesn't show Canadian's the same respect.
So after 17 years of being happily not married, we paid the $135 and got the piece of paper.
In my opinion, relationships are none of the government's business!

My church has done several commitment ceremonies in the past 2 years. I know that this doesn't have any legal value, but for the couples in my church, they wanted to do it, and our congregation supports them.
By the way, I belong to an open and affirming UCC congregation in Minnesota.

A poll about marrital status should include committed partnership, because many long-term relationships take this form. The division of choices into "married, single, or engaged" oversimplifies the issue.
My partner Charlotta and I have been together for almost 5 years now, and I moved to Sweden to live with her. We have no plans to get married, but we're commmitted to each other nonetheless.

I thought that perhaps this poll had another angle...namely the recent story that appeared on news.com that virus writers were all lonely people (mostly men) who lacked girlfriends and hence sought attention by writing viruses.

maybe a more interesting question would be "if you're over 22, are you married?"
i'm married to work for now. it's very pathetic, but i have a great group of friends that keep my social life active. Dating has been hard for the past year or so (broke up with a live-in gf). i don't really have the drive for it. marriage seems so far away to me (which means it'll probably happen within a year, right?)

In 1996 President Bill Clinton signed the "Defense of Marriage Act" that prohibits same-sex marriages. This law forbids couples from receiving federal marriage benefits and allows states to ignore same-sex marriages that may be sanctioned by other states.
also...
In April 2000 the Vermont legislature passed the first law in the United States that would allow same-sex couples to enter into a legally recognized union.

My birthday has always been easy to remember...just two different numbers. 11/17/77. I also have some odd relative (2nd cousin once removed or whatever) who supposedly was born on 11/18/88.
Then there is my brother. His birthday was never real easy to remember. He was born in 1980, so figuring out his age wasn't too bad (take the current year and just subtract very quickly)...until on his 21st birthday, then everything changed. A little weird having your birthday on September 11th.

The confusion about the opposite sex is normal for your young age. Marriage is best for those that have reached an age of maturity. Females tend to mature sooner than males. From my own experience, you will know when you are ready. Singleness is also to be honored.
