... what it would cost to build a computer as good as the standard mac pro from parts on newegg. Figuring in motherboard, RAM, video card, OSX, 16x superdrive like thing, Harddrive and keybaord and mouse, I have it nailed to about 1250 give or take.

What i need to know is how much two intel xeon 2.66ghz chips cost.

no i dont actually want to build this computer i just want to know.

Also am i forgetting anything?

I remember looking this up, and I think they were something like $850 each... not 100% sure though. You can find em if you search on newegg or something for xeon 5150...I know they are a hefty amount of change!

I believe that the 2.66Ghz Woodcrests are Xeon 5150s and the whole processor range is 51xx...those are a lower model and are alot less cash...

Intel Processor, Xeon 5150 DC 2.66GHz - Lowest Price I found was $714 each... http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php/page_id=42/form_keyword=5150

those links you provided were for intel 5030's. I'm looking for intel 5100's 2.66. I couldnt find any on newegg although i did find the 5080 for something like $850. I'm not sure the available to consumers yet though so maybe i wont know for a while. if theyre anywhere close to 850 then that means apple is selling at or near a loss and i cant believe that. Anyone else know?

HP's price while im not sure if thats overpirced or accurate or whatever it does seem that the xeon's are vastly expensive and make the Mac Pro a very good purchase.

This man is offering one for 700 dollars "buy it now" so i believe its safe to say building this computer on your own is likely to be more expensive.
My final rough build it yourself mac pro estimate Price

2499.99

Funny? I actually came out to 2544 but, its all a very eduated guess.

like 80ish could probably find better deal

apple keyboard and mouse - 80 dollars free shipping

OSX 130 free shipping

2471 without shipping

all Newegg shipping is like 13 dollars when i went to checkout (i didn't actually buy)

so total with shipping 2505 compared to the 2499.99 + tax (maybe) you would pay for the mac.

Granted I could likely have found a ittle better deals with more looking on newegg but its not likely to come down more than 100 dollars. I also didnt include and cooling and maybe some other things i forgot. But its quite obvios that even the cheapest competeitor to the Mac Pro (Custom built) is still no match for the Price of the Mac Pro. Not to mention the Mac Pro comes with technical support and the great OSX that youd have a hell of a time getting onto the machine i built.

Yep, I made a mistake and linked the wrong CPU's...
Local shop doesn't have the 5130's or 5150's yet.
