OK, so I have three Yonah machines... Core Duo MBP (2.16 GHz), Core Duo mini (1.66 GHz), and Core Solo mini (1.5 GHz). This question pertains more to the two minis, since I imagine they are easier to open up and tinker with:

Are Yonah machines easily upgradeable to Merom? In other words, can you get a Merom chip and just put it into the same socket as an existing Yonah chip? Or can you only swap Yonah for Yonah and Merom for Merom?

Yes for minis, now for MBP as the cpu is soldered in. Current iMacs can be upgraded as well.

you can just buy a retail merom chip and pop it into either of your mac minis and it will work. however, the macbook pro's processor is socketed and therefore won't work.
