i would think there is something wrong with your superdrive.

I haven't had much luck with getting an .iso disk image to burn correctly to a CD. The system is a G4 933 Quicksilver w/superdrive and 10.3.9.

Finder seems to create a coaster (or seven) .

...The Finder can mount ISO disk image files on the Desktop, but is not meant to burn them. For that, you need Disk Utilities which does the job very well.
