mac mini processor upgradable? rendering....

Hello mac crazies!



I am trying to figure out which computer to by for a specific purpose: render networking.


at first we were thinking of building our own desktop machine, but then we got enchanted with the idea of getting a mac mini core solo machine and swapping out the processor for something swanky.


how do we do this? which processor? would this be a bad idea for render farming?

Couldn't you just use generic *NIX servers?
