I have a Network drive that i store all my music on and Itunes looks to this drive for my music collection

Problem is if i have a track / file that has a particular long file name Itunes and finder dosnt see it, and if i try to copy a file to the network drive it reports file name too long and will not copy the file over.

Any ideas ?

It reports the format as 'Appleshare'

and the longest file name appears to be 27 characters into the root of the drive !

Does that help

Bit of a first timer to the OSX lark

When they store files on foreign file systems, MacOS 9 and MacOS X generally automatically truncate file names to fit within file length restrictions. I have never seen it refuse to store a file. A better question might be: "Which OS is the server running?"

I've had this same problem copying the occassional file to a Zip disk (yes, I still use my old Zip Drive)
