I never knew about this. Weird to think that Quark, at one time, had the cash/options/clout to even have the balls to try this deal.
Now Quark's dying a slow death with Adobe's foot on it's throat.

With Adobe's aquisition of Macromedia I actually hope Quark doesn't die. Competition is a good thing.

Adobe seems to think otherwise :-)

´98 – isn´t that the year InDesign made it´s debut, at a price point well below XPress? Adobe made a clever move with the pricing, getting cash strapped design graduates and start-up agencies onto InDesign instead of the overpriced Quark offering. I believe they even made the 1.5 upgrade free (or very cheap at least) – perhaps apologising for the many issues 1.0 had. Since 2.0 I haven´t touched XPress except for the odd client that demands it. They´re charged a premium :D
Quark knew InDesign meant trouble. Now 8 years later they´re still baffled. Almost like when Windows suddenly stepped all over the Mac OS and only a hard core user base could keep Apple alive.
