icon issues in Finder for Tiger 10.4.7

Whenever I create a new file on my desktop, Finder always plants it in the lower right corner on top of the last file it planted there. I'm running two monitors (19" LaCie and a 17" Dell) out of a Mac G5 Dual 2Ghz box. Finder will mount newly acquired drives and CDs in the next available space, but file generation gets the overlay of the most recent file icon. WTF?😕

I'm all updated with the latest Software Update, and this all started about a week ago. No new software or crashes that I'm aware of, either.
 
im no expert on dual displays, but here goes.

you can try a simple fix. go to the finder and hit command+J. click either snap to grid or keep arranged by name/date/etc.

if that doesn't work then idk. there used to be a nice option in OS9 if you were to control/right click you could select "clean up" and it would clean up everything for you (duh).

well hopefuly that works for you if not, sell your 2 displays and get a 30" cinema 😛
 
Thanks, I'll give it a shot...
I'm all about the 30" Cinema displays, but since they're work monitors, I'll have to justify the budget😀
