I don't want to open a can or ethical worms, so let's try to saty away from all that. From a simple security/stability pont of view, are file sharing programs like limewire safe? We've all heard the dark rumors of them being an open window through which the black-masked elements can enter our systems at will and steal whatever they want. I've even been told that you can't really remove these programs from your system by sending them to the trash, i.e., they're going to be on there for good. Is this true? I used limewire on my old iMac (mainly to download MP3's of songs I owned on my multitude of albums and 45's, so I believe I have that right). I have refrained from loading onto my new PowerMac "just in case." What's the word on the street on these things?

Are they worth using?

I've never gotten any hits from either.

I use Acquisition, and there are no major security concerns that I know of. I'm no expert on the subject, but I haven't heard of any issues.

Having used both extensivly, I have had no security concerns.

I have downloaded many programs too, and no, I haven't had
trouble or security issues. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have been a fan of P2P since it came to Mac. I have no worries. I doubt very much if anyone knows what I do with these apps, though I know someone who has had an issue with his cable provider over some files on the MLDonkey network.

I have been running a program called Furthur every day for over 2 years, with out any problems. If you dont know, Furthur is a p2p program much like limewire. The BIG difference is that ALL the music to be had is 100% legal to trade. All the music is live stuff from jam bands like, Grateful Dead, Phish, Dave Matthews, etc.

If anyone here would like some GREAT live music from over 100 bands, that is COMPLETELY FREE AND LEGAL TO DOWNLOAD AND TRADE, waltz on over toowww.furthurnet.com (http://www.furthurnet.com) NO PORN OR WEARZ.

If you do go and get a show, chances are you will download it from me, I personaly host around 250 gigs of shns. ( if you dont know what shn's are, shorten is a compression scheme which is lossless unlike "lossy" mp3's)

Furthurnet is a great community much like macrumors except that all of them are dirty, old, tree huggin', pot smokin', hippies ( as people here like to call them) Much like myself.
