POST YOUR APPLE COLLECTIONS HERE

Well, since I am bored and have nothing better to do, I decided to make a thread here in the good ol' Collectors thing. It's not an "official" one (even though I wanted to make it say so!) Everyone who has a collection of Apple stuff... post what you have, and if you have some pics, post those. Its interesting to see what other collectors have.

Now, my collection has been severly reduced due to me having to move out of the house. Hopefully in a year or two I will be able to start the collection up again. Here is what I have from newest-oldest in terms of Apple stuff:

MacBook (Black) 2.0GHz/512MB RAM/80GBHD/APE/BT/Superdrive/10.4.7
iMac G4 1.0Ghz/256MB RAM/80GB HD/SuperDrive/10.4.7
Beige G3 266MHz/256MB RAM/7GB HD/CD-ROM/10.3.9
Performa 6300CD 30MHz/8MB RAM/750MB HD/CD-ROM/7.6.1
Perfoma 6116CD (Unknown Specs)
Two (2) 14" Apple ADB CRT monitors.

That's it for my Apple stuff, sadly enough. I used to have some laptops, but its all been sold.

I don't have much. I like chess though. I've got a hand carved wooden set for travel, a stone set, a pewter set and a glass set. I'm at work right now so I will post pictures later. That pewter set was expensive. It cost me like $800. But I'm a nerd so it's ok.

Current closet inventory is as follows:

Power Macintosh 6500/225
Macintosh Classic
Macintosh SE
PowerBook 145 (plus a parts machine)

In use:

Mac Mini (G4/1.42)
MacBook 2.0 Black
Macintosh SE/30

The SE/30 is the new toy off of Craigslist, I've been using it for IRC in the meantime, but when I snag some more RAM for it I plan to install BSD. Other than that, I've got a ton of old Commodore 64/128 and various PC stuff, because I like to tinker with the old stuff :D

Like, I know... is it not better to make a new one then to revive a 6-month+ older one and make ppl read through 6 pages? Plus people's collections change and everything.

So its pretty cool just every once and awhile to see what ppl have in terms of actual collections... I originally just wanted to compare what macg4 and macEfan have, but decided to open it to other ppl.

Well it's sort of incomplete and some things have come and gone but, it's fairly accurate.

http://homepage.mac.com/ibook238/apple_list.htm

I'm not rich or anything but, I tend to get pretty good deals on these machines. The ones with the expensive price tags were purchased by my Dad's office for him to use, when they were brand new (Macintosh IIcx and Mac G4). :p :D

Macbook Pro 2.0/1gb/100gb 7200rpm/256mb vRAM

15gb iPod 3g

30gb iPod 5g

And thats it. I understand why people collect old macs, but I don't like older, slower computers, so why spend my money on them? I'll leave it for the true macheads. If I had extra cash it would go towards a motorcycle or top of the line gaming PC. Although that flickr guy has way to much time and money on his hands, his collection is amazing.

Machines I use regularly or have a use for beyond collection:

White MacBook 2.0Ghz Core Duo, 10.4.7
Snow iMac 500Mhz G3, 10.4.7/9.2.2
Power Mac G3 DT 233Mhz, OS X Server 1.0/OS 8.5.1 via Blue Box (MacOS.app :D)
Power Mac 8600/200 200Mhz 604e, YDL 3/OS 8.0
Quadra 950 33Mhz 68040, A/UX 3.1 -- LOVE this machine

I'm actually looking at consolidating my G3 and my 8600 into the G3 and combining their functions. I'm just a lot more comfortable in Linux than I am in Rhapsodified OS X. Plus OS X Server 1.0 has been a bit of a dog lately, so I'm not fully trusting of it yet.

Others:
Mac SE/30 -- free, abandoned -- 7.5.5 & Photoshop 1 :D
Performa 575 (My first computer at home!), 8.1
Performa 6400/180 (...), 8.1
PowerBook 100, System 7.0.1
IBM ThinkPad 380ED running Rhapsody ;)

Accessories:
Apple MultiScan 720 17" Display -- $5 Dollars!
Apple MultiScan 14 14" Display -- Freebie
Apple Performa Plus 14" Display -- Freebie
iPod 5G 30Gb
Various keyboards and mice

Well, my full collection is documented in other threads that I'm too lazy to look up at the moment, but I did get one score today.

A friend finally was willing to get rid of his original iBook (Tangerine, baby!) so he donated it to my collection. Along with it, he threw in his original graphite AirPort Base Station. Both with all original disks, manuals, and packaging. This one had long been replaced, but he hung on to it for sentimental value (it was his first bought-new Mac.) He just got a black MacBook, though, to replace both of his minis (G4 and Core Duo) and his iBook G3, so he decided to rid himself of all of his older equipment, including this one. I might buy his Intel mini, but I doubt it. I'll probably just wait and get an iMac or Mac Pro early next year.

It's amazing, I was actually renting a room in his basement when he bought them, and I went out and got a Lucent WaveLAN Gold card for my Sony notebook so I could connect wirelessly. That Lucent card is now (after some minor hacking,) in my 600 MHz iMac G3 where it should have an AirPort card. Amazing how things come full circle... (Hrm... Do the graphite base stations support WDS? If so, I could add it to my network...)

This is the first iBook in my collection, so it's pretty nice. He even ran the restore discs before bringing it over, so when I turned it on, I got to watch the intro video just like when it was new. I'm not sure if I'll leave OS 9 on it, or if I'll stick 10.3 on there. (It has 160 MB of RAM, plus an AirPort card. Still has its stock 3.2 GB hard drive, though.) I think I might leave OS 9 on it, and have it be my (2 year old) daughter's play computer with some basic kid software (that won't run on my MacBook Pro.)

Wow, that is pretty impressive... and pretty nice of that friend of yours.

Of course, I was just given a new addition to my collection as well. Beige G3 mini-tower case with OS 9... Hardly any RAM, 4GB HD. Its an interesting machine and they even brought along an external CD burner for me to use with it. I am not sure if I would use the machine, or what I would even use it for yet.

So... I will probably be offering up yet another system here on MR very shortly!!

Well, I'm 13, been seriously collecting computers since I was 11.

Now, If you want to hear my WINDOWS box collection, thats another story.:D

Altogether, I personlly own 14 computers, 11 of them being Windows Box's.

Funny thing is, Macs aren't the highest order anymore. I've used Windows so long mostly because my family uses it, but recently, because Macs are considerd uncool by the gaming community. It's true that Macs can run almost anything a PC can. But there are a few programs that are made for windows only... and thats why we have Bootcamp:D

I'm getting a Mac Mini when I can cough up the money, so it won't be too long before I can finally use a Mac as my main computer instead of just playing around with them.

I've recently started to consolidate all my various images in one place, and that's Gallery 2. A good number of my machines now have photos or albums there - have a look!

Nice new site Blake and congrats on the new arrival! will that put a halt to your collection? :D

Just been to NYC myself, did you find the Holy Grail (not in Spamalot!) I mean the Apple 5th Avenue store!

I posted it earlier, but here it is again (http://www.danpalka.net/mymacs.html).

49 distinct models (not counting processor speed variations like 8100/80 and 8100/100) plus the 8500/120 I just acquired would be 50 models and 80 units.

the performa finally finished rendering. i ran the povray (http://www.povray.org) benchmark scene on the machine. the program was custom compiled and the scene was run with the recommended command-line switches. here's the result:

Perform 6400/200 (603e)
Parse Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 31 seconds (31 seconds)
Photon Time: 0 hours 14 minutes 5 seconds (845 seconds)
Render Time: 15 hours 29 minutes 40 seconds (55780 seconds)
Total Time: 15 hours 44 minutes 16 seconds (56656 seconds)

by comparison here's my 2.4 ghz athlon64

Parse Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 1 seconds (1 seconds)
Photon Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 28 seconds (28 seconds)
Render Time: 0 hours 19 minutes 55 seconds (1195 seconds)
Total Time: 0 hours 20 minutes 24 seconds (1224 seconds)

a couple of days ago I picked up another old mac.. a duo 280c with a bad logic board for $15 shipped. Switched the logic board, and now everything is working great!
