Much like this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=227056) except instead of IE I want it to be Firefox (yeah zip it FF users). Also instead of an image can a popup notice/box have the following message:

"This site is not viewable in Firefox for a reason, get a real browser.

Windows: Swift (http://www.getswift.org/)
Macintosh: Safari (http://apple.com/safari/)"

I use wordpress on my site so it would have to go in the header.php file (assuming it's some kind of script) or just an auto detect that would move to a webpage where that info is displayed?

Any help would be nice :).

Sounds like you need to do some googling for javascript browser detection unless you want a server side scripting solution like PHP.

If you do want to edit your PHP script then use the variable $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; which contains a string of the browser type. Then an If statement on "if the browser is firefox do this, else do that".

Anyway, whats wrong with firefox? why block it? If your website is up to xhtml and css standards then your site will work with any browser (in theory) but atleast definitely in any major browser.

Turned out to be my fault I forgot to add another
-->
To my sidebar.php file.

Nevermind this thread, eventhough I still hate FireFox ;).

Why don't you like Firefox? I don't use it myself but I know it's really useful with all the developer stuff, and I thought it was good in that it got Windows users away from IE. I'm not having a go (especially as I don't personally use it) — just genuinely curious as to why you would want to block Firefox users.

IE is awful, terribly awful.

Let's face it here, Firefox is far superior to IE. 1.) Pages load significantly faster in FF compared to IE. 2.) FF is far more standards compliant than IE.(Pages actually display properly in FF.) 3.) It's more secure!

What do you have against Firefox?

I agree - firefox was the solutions to all my IE problems (constantly getting adware and other rubbish).

Anyway, even if you dont like firefix, dont block users from using your website just cos they got firefox! Thats just plain dumb lol.

What's weird is that I recently ran across something that IE handles better than Firefox. I have a hovering layer that looks like a "talk box" complete with pointer, which sits over top of a scrollable area. In Firefox, I am not always able to access parts of the scroll bar because it still thinks I am clicking on the overlay even though the area I'm clicking is transparent and shows through the scrollbar. When it actually worked as expected in IE, boy, was I surprised!

"This site is not viewable in Firefox for a reason, get a real browser.

You are entitled to your opinions but why in this day and age you would choose to block a certain browser, I've no idea. Especially the most standards compliant browser out there. Just to show you how short-sighted you are being, if I was to block FF, I would be blocking 36% of visitors to my site.

Why not just create valid code and it will work on every browser. It's not the browsers fault, it's your coding abilities.

BTW, Safari isn't the greatest to be honest. It's slowly declining because they based their benchmark against IE.

When I make websites, and it doesnt look quite right in a specific major browser, I can spend hours and hours finding a solution that works the same way in them all. A part of last website I made seems to shift a couple of millimeters to the left on firefox than on IE - this really still annoys me!

Not necessarily. Just because you have valid HTML/XHTML code doesn't mean it will work in every browser because each browser supports valid code/standards to varying degrees.

BTW, Safari isn't the greatest to be honest. It's slowly declining because they based their benchmark against IE.
Why do you think Safari is slowly declining? It was the first officially-released browser to pass the Acid2 (http://www.webstandards.org/action/acid2/) test.

Judging by the suggestions he put (safari/swift) he wants people to use WebKit based browsers.

I see, but what advantages do those types of browsers have over firefox? Swift is merely in the alpha stage of development. I'm interested in Swift, but all the links on their site are down. :(

I. HAVE. NO. IDEA. IT. MAKES. NO. SENCE. WHATSOEVER.

Actually, apparently WebKit-based-safari is faster than firefox in every way... but thats according to Apple, and its their product, so, you know, the results could be skewed. I love safari personally.
