I'm looking to buy something that would give me the ability to run cable and my XBox into my iMac so I don't have to buy a television. I assume there are interfaces for this purpose that plug into USB or Firewire ports. Any suggestions?

Check out www.elgato.com. You'd have to get an analogue device, not digital, if you want to use your video game system on it.
