is there any applications available that i can convert to AVI from MPEG?..

Yes.

(You'll get a better answer if you give some more specifics on the codecs you want and what you've tried).

Give VisualHub a try.

The guy who wrote is awesome. I'm not sure you can go mpeg -> avi, but it's pretty feature rich, so you might find it handy.

You should be able to do it with ffmpegX
