Printer Drivers

Hey guys, I am trying to hook my HP LaserJet 1000 Series up to my Mac Mini. When its plugged in through the USB, and I go to add a printer, it recognizes that it is there and that it is a Laserjet 1000 but the model number isn't in the list where it says "Print using." I have tried those GutenPrint drivers but that didn't seem to work. Is this kind of printer unsupported or am I doing something wrong? Any hepl would be great.
