MacDailyNews reports (http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/10807/) that Apple has started a print campaign that complements the recent Get a Mac television ads.
A detachable insert in the September 8th issue of Entertainment Weekly contains a 14 page booklet showing "Why you'll love a Mac":
Macs are designed from the ground up to work better than any other computer. And they come with everything you need to have more fun, right out of thebox. Including iLife '06, Apple's award-winning suite of software that lets you easily crete photo books; websites, blogs; home movies and more. A built-in iSight camera for video chats with your friends and family. Mac OS X, the world's most advanced operating system that doesnt' suffer from all the viruses that plague PCs. And Intel's latest chip, so everything runs faster than ever. Say hello to a better computer. Say hello to Mac.
The booklet goes on to show pictures and descriptions of iPhoto, iWeb, iTunes, iMovie, GarageBand, iChat, Dashboard, Microsoft Office, iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro and the Mac mini. Photos of the booklet can be seen here (Flickr) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52066649@N00/).

It compliments the TV ads nicely.

We don't have the "Get A Mac" campaign in the UK as far as I know (certainly not on TV). HOWEVER recently lots of magazines have had double page spreads with iMacs and MacBooks in them. I guess this is nothing to do with the "Get A Mac" campaign...shame really, coz I rather like it!

Too bad the advertising does not include the greatest all in one Mac...the 24" iMac...S.J. doesn't trust the ad agency with a secret?

They're missing the 24" iMac in the ad... too bad.
Edit: revjay's quicker :)

Too bad they list the iMacs as starting at $1299. As of now it's $999, or $899 education...wonder why they couldn't coordinate this? Maybe they thought the specs would get leaked?

Great news, Apple needs to do more of this IMO. Spread the good word and increase that marketshare! :D

And most issues of Time and Rolling Stone...
(The last big print campaign was for Tiger, I think.)

Very sweet indeed! More ads is always a good thing for Apple. :) The iMac 24-inch will eventually make its way into the ads. I mean, it did just come out yesterday! :p

Nice. sounds like they're actually showing off the OS as opposed to just showing how cool the computer is. Nice to get some detailed reasons why os x is the way to go.

he's been burned before, I'm not suprised. I hope that this doesnt hint at the lack of any refreshing of the mentioned product lines in the near future. Where the iPods featured at all in the booklet?

So thats what that thing was. I saw this booklet floating around my kitchen table, and didn't know what it was so I tossed it. I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly and this must have fallen out.
Cool ad, though I have to say I'm not convinced of how effective it will be in Entertainment Weekly.

I was wondering when this would happen. I seem to remember hearing that they were doing lots of work on ad campaigns other than Just TV and Internet.
It is nice to see some in print. I may actually buy one of these magazines just to add the ..... ad.... to my apple collection :)

I doubt it. The information in those ads is old (well, relatively speaking.) The ad lists the iMac as having a Core Duo instead of the Core 2 Duo as it does now, not to mention the lack of mention of the 24" screen.
So those who are waiting for C2D in MBP's and MB's, these ads shouldn't bother you.

I wouldn't call the Mac Mini's chips Intel's "latest"
They're on the bottom of the higher end of Intel's "last" gen chips prior to Core 2 Duo  . I know it's the "low end" Mac, but the claims have got to at least match up.
Am I wrong about this?

cool booklet

They are trying to appeal to non-mac users, a majority of Mac users purchase Macworld. I'd like to see it in there too, but I can't see it happening :o :(

I thought these ads confirmed no Macbook updates until I saw what you pointed out. I'm glad there's still hope! :)

the world's most advanced operating system that doesn't suffer from all the viruses that plague PCsLogicians and nitpicking grammarians (like me, for example :)) may notice that this claim could be interpreted as any of these:"Macs suffer no viruses." (a very strong claim)
"Macs suffer no PC viruses." (but might have their own)
"It is not the case that Macs suffer from every single PC virus." (a very weak claim)
"Of all the operating systems, this is the one that suffers least from viruses." (i.e., the virus problem might be awful under Mac OS X, just not as bad as for Windows)
To avoid that last interpreation, they could have changed "that" to "which" and added a comma, so it would bethe world's most advanced operating system, which doesn't suffer from all the viruses that plague PCsThat change would also avoid the interpretation that Windows is more advanced and Mac OS X is merely the most advanced O.S. within the class of virus-free operating systems.

After looking at the Flikr photos, I see that we misquoted them. So some of my nitpicks in the previous post don't apply.
It turns out that there is a comma in the sentence, although it still uses that instead of which. The actual sentence isMac OS X, the world's most advanced operating system, that doesn't suffer from all the viruses that plague PCs.
But the use of the word "all" still makes the claim ambiguous!

I think it is clever that they are selling the OS not the hardware... it's an awesome Operating System- oh and by the way it comes in these pretty pretty packages. Veery clever.

Makes sense though. For all intents and purposes, the hardware is just the same as a PC now, with the transition to Intel and all. So, focus on the key differentiator, and why it is superior to the PC alternative. Smart marketing.

It looks like this ad should have been release a month or two ago. As already mentioned, the new iMacs arent mentioned (specifically the 23") nor the new Mac Minis or the Mac Pro.
It seems to me that maybe these ads were written/printed a while ago & are just now making it to distro.
Still, I like the ad. it's very colorful & informative. Best of all, in keeping with Apple's "style," the overall design of the ad layout takes a minimalist approach. There's no "reaction shots" of fake users (grinning models). There's no colorful borders or sweeping graphic clutter.
It's just products on a white background with clear, easy to read text.
So many ads these days are terribly burdended with pointless filler pics, brightly colored backgrounds jammed with logos, textures, fades, and all that crap.
I like this ad. Itproves that Less is More.

I Noticed The iMac Description Is Not Of The New Core 2 Duo Models. That's spending an aweful lot of advertising dollars to distribute mis-information about your own current and new line of iMacs.
Sorry for the redundancy. I didn't read the string before posting my first take on the subject.

Not sure I completely agree with you here. I know a lot of PC-philes looking at the mac because the hardware is so much nicer.
You may begin to see more macs running something other than OS/X running around out there than you ever thought possible.
