MBP Woes What Can I Do?

Well first off I love my new MBP but a few short-comming bother me especially for the price.

1st I sometimes hear a whine from my MBP not always but its still annoying.
2nd It gets very hot, it jumps from 29 celcius to 75 celcius i havent downloaded the firmware update yet maybe that will help.
3rd after upgrading the os my airports reception went down in a bad way, when it still had 10.4.4 my airport consistently had a rate of 54 MBPS but after wards it would fluctuate from 6 to 40 MBPS (yes this was in the same location)
4th (this should be first) the first thing I did was register my battery for the recall, apple said my battery qualified but wouldnt process because the MBP's serial number didnt, what can i do?
5th alot of my apps keep crashing with the stock 512 ram, yes i will upgrade but is this normal? also some of my widgets dont seem to work anymore(default daily forecast) and when i use firefox to transfer my music from my "FTP" its just a firefox plug-in called gspace which allows you to upload files. I always get the beach ball of death.

No it is not normal, with too little ram it will just thresh around like crazy but it should not crash, probably due to the heat.. it is making the electronics inside go haywire :eek:

I feel like calling Apple about the heat issue ist sitting at 59 degrees and I'm surfing one page on the net! I dont know if its worth it or if they will do anything

heck, mine's been hitting 67+ at idle with one webpage open. If I dare to have mail and iChat open as well, say hello to the 70's!

itunes open? up to 76ish.

Dare I run one of my editing apps? 80s then the fans start going nuts. Or rather the ones that work.... :o

WHAT?? that is truly amazing! Viccles, i too am considering sending mine in, it's usually around 69C but now it's at 85!!!! i was surprised myself. Anyways, about sending it in, i figure if somehting else goes wrong with it, at all, i'll send it in and mention every little thing thats wrong.

Mines a week 28 and its hovering around 60-65 degrees and I am solely on MR. If I try photoshop it shoots right up. We will see what the outcome is tomorrow I'll let you know what happens. I'm using Coreduotemp to measure my temperature is anyone else using the same? I wonder if Apple will take Coreduo temp or have some other way to measure the temp

Run the apple hardware test, see if something's wrong physically? I had two different error codes- one for the simple and one for the in depth test.

should i contact amazon first? the problem is they no longer carry my system and doubt they would give me an upgrade, or just go straight to applecare?

The last straw that caused me to call Applecare for the MBP (apart from the screen, the warping case / screen, etc) was when I was pitting myself against two colleagues on my laptops in a game - i.e. stressing both the CPU and the GPU. When in applications such as Handbrake, my MBP could reach case temps in excess of 50C, which is a low-temp burn level.

It so turns out that stressing the GPU too significantly raises system temps. My unfortunate friend who happened to be on the MBP burned himself a little.

I repeated the condition later and found that the top strip above the keyboard and the case underside reached temperatures in excess of 60C. My practically identically configured HP laptop (2.16 Core Duo, X1600, 17") remained in the high 40's on the underside and never reached burn-capable temps anywhere near the keyboard. This is the difference between good design and good engineering. Apple seems to have a splendid grasp of the former, but seems to be prone to dropping the ball for the latter.

Core temps really don't do much in terms of gauging the usability of the 'notebook'. You need a non-contact thermometer to measure case temps. You can get them (as I did) on ebay for not much. Mine was £20.

Core Temp Measurement: Program.

im fully aware of what you meant. its just that people have reported internal components melting (such as bluetooth) melting when their systems reached around 80 celcius. but i do enjoy using a laptop on my lap so im worried about the burn

### yowsa! these temps you folks are mentioning are insane. I won't buy until that stuff is fixed. Maybe it's time for Apple to make a laptop that's one and quarter inches thick.

Wow i thought mine was really hot. Right when I turn it on it is 22C after 8 hours being on (not heavy useage) I would say messenger, web surfing, yahoo pool :cool: and itunes it runs about 42C. I dont think I should be worried should i?

not at all! mine has never been at 42 for long :(

its been hovering in the high 60s-low 70s here for a while now with messenger web surfing and mail only.

Monitor problems/damaged casing. I thought 42C was very hot, the metal burns my skin... they should have some health hazerdous signs on these machines.

actually im sorry, i shouldnt have said that, i guess i was fed up with a pretty bad week. anyways enjoy your system and if it gets too hot just stop by an apple store and have them check the thermal grease. im thinking about sending it in to apple.

Is 42C surface temperature or the temperature measured off the cpu chip using some monitoring app?

42C is very cool if it is off the CPU, off the surface it is somewhat irritating though.

I went into the apple store in Novi Michigan yesterday and all of the macbook pros except for like 2 were veeeeeeeerrry very cool to the touch, and this was probably around 8PM..near closing time..so those rigs have been on and running ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL DAY and they were nice and cool..I even felt the bottom of them! Weird.....:confused:
