yep, that's it, but you don't want it lasting longer than a month where you try to have a conversation, some are just too dumb, you can't talk about anything! like wanting to test a child in multiplication when he still doesn't know how to add.

does it have to be either/or? i look for both, but i will say that i am more inclined to woo beautiful women over brainy women. although, being smart is rather attractive. i like someone who can argue with me :)

brains make them beautiful, but the physical attraction has to be there, too. It isn't usually just one or the other...

a more interesting question would be brains, looks, or money...

Beauty is fleeting and staring will only get you so far but intelligence and good conversation will last a lifetime.

Well, I would rather be with an interesting, intelligent person who's ugly than a beautiful person who's completely empty headed. But that's typically not the case.
I'm Asian, and (I'm going to generalize here, sorry) most Asian girls are decently smart. So in most cases, although there are dumb ones out there, I can have a good time, good conversations, and find interest in most of the girls I know. So, beauty is a greater factor for me, because very few people are polar to where they are very good looking + super stupid, or vice versa.

I voted 'Brains', but I guess what I mean is the person inside the body not raw IQ. Of course beauty is important as it's what attracts one person to another in the first place in many instances. I've spent a lot of time looking at 'beautiful' women and many of them have been empty shells, then bam out of the blue I met a woman absolutely bursting with personality/pizzaz/that indescribable quality that makes looks an irrelevance. Of course I'm incredible lucky as this amazing person just happened to be gorgeous to boot:)
The truth of it is, l've loved her from the first second I met her.

It's just a terrible pity that many of those people are taken :( I sometimes wish that I had less mainstream tastes. Like a real fondness for the flat-chested, annoying, etc. so that I could be easy to please.
Though, thinking of it right now from my vantage point... *shudder*

Beauty, definitely!
But personality trumps both beauty and brains!
Not sure what you're asking here.
What you'd choose to have, or what you look for in a partner?
If the former, then may I be greedy and ask for both?
If the latter, then again, both. Brains takes precedence but looks are obviously what you first notice about a person. I can't go out with someone that I can't have an intelligent conversation with, or that my personality doesn't gel with, but nor can I date an ugly guy! I have in the past been out with people that I've not fancied, but just got on well with... but because there was no physical attraction and no 'spark' it just didn't work out. So, I'm *never* doing that again... it's all or nothing...
Of course I'm lucky that I've recently met the most amazing *and* gorgeous guy ;-)

A bit of both helps!! and usually you get a bit of both in most people! tbh i find that id rather have someone with common sense not just brains! I once knew an Oxford university graduate who couldnt change a lightbulb! so u can be the brightest person in the world and it still wouldnt matter without an ounce of common sense!
You can get on with intelligent people but in a relationship if your not attracted to that person its utterly pointless therefore you can never truly say one or the other!
What an astonishing coincidence...

I was just being picky with my English. Original = run away. Just kidding = I wouldn't run away. But after thinking about it, if a girl like that did come up to me, I probably would run away. So I'm not kidding about running away. But I'm kidding because I hope that you're not a flat-chest annoying girl.
Who am I kidding. Of course you're not.
The internet,
Where men are men,
Women are men,
And children are FBI agents. :D
Anyways, I'm pretty sure that everyone's looking for some combination of both. It's more a factor of which one you'd rather have more of - the drop-dead beautiful girl who's fun to talk to, or the very intelligent/fun to talk to girl who's pretty cute.

like, omgosh. totally duuude.
Brains all the way. There's a type of look that I find attractive (in theory) over others, but the people I've actually properly fallen for have been male and female, young and old, short and tall, thin and not so thin, and so on.
Sense of humour, strength of personality, intelligence, passion and all the other aspects of personality are what makes me actually attracted to them. Looks mean eff all — some of the people I've truly fallen for have been far from what most people would find attractive, but I did because we clicked so well and they were such an amazing person, and consequently found them far more attractive than some random 'attractive' person.

You know what's most important in people? A good sense of humor. I find that smart good-looking but humorless people tend not to be good company for very long.
With Mac OS X and Apple computers we get both brains and beauty. Even though you can ask a Mac to tell you a knock-knock joke and Apple has specs that remind us not to eat their products, there's only a small bit of humor built into our computers. But that's ok. It matters a lot more with people.

What's "smart"?
I don't want to date an encyclopedia, or someone who's going to talk circles around me. However, I'd date someone who is great with people, handles herself well when there are problems, and is willing and capable of learning, although she may not know a lot of facts or figures. :)
And if you choose beauty, does it mean that the other person is a complete airhead, or does it mean she's of average intelligence? I'd choose beauty then. :o

Like Doctor Q says, brains are no good without an accompanying sense of humour. Beauty is great for a night (and oh boy, what nights you can have!!) but airheads get very dull after a week, especially when they start ringing you five times a day and leaving increasingly irate and/or desperate voicemails.
So it's got to be brains. I need someone witty as a companion. Probably to make up for my own inadequacy in that department :)

In myself I'd rather have brains. Same goes for a S.O. However, beauty is such a nice thing to have in a S.O. I'll be blunt - It is absolutely wonderful to be head over heals in love with a person's body and then to have them allow you to touch it all over :). But you definitely need more than that to form a healthy, loving relationship.

Brains over beauty any day.

I don't know how guys can find a female who spends more time and money on make up and beauty products than she does actually doing something productive , to be more attractive.

I tend to have no problem finding a woman that is both physically beautiful and intellectually brilliant...
i guess it could be because im not working in a engineering or comp sci related field... in international buisness law, you have to make an effort to keep yourself looking good to get major brownie points with the clients.
HOWEVER,
while a woman who's pretty and smart is a prize, a woman who is stunningly beautiful and intellectually brilliant (far beyond me) should be avoided at all cost. most men can't handle being in a relationship with a woman that is both far better looking AND far smarter.

Women between the ages of 18-22 don't know what the hell they want. If they have a boyfriend its just because he's some punker kid with a gotee and a chip on his shoulder. See, we "nice" guys get to wait it out. Otherwise, we're thrown in the friends category. Yeah we can talk to those HOT chicks, but thats about it. We are not "boyfriend" material. My best guy friend complained of the same things to me...
I can only speak for myself, though, and I can honestly say that I do not fit into that generalization:p I've only had one serious boyfriend, and he was the person that got me hooked on macs! He's really the opposite of the "punker kid" type that you mention.
I have also been told that I think like a guy, and that I am an exception in that respect. I do see a lot of girls going for the type that you mention, though, so I understand what you're getting at.
To be fair, girls can suffer from that as well, because many guys in the age group that you mention aren't looking for the nice girls, either.

If brains mean personality, then brains, but if it meens she got As in high school or is book smart, and an ass other then that, i'd go for Beauty.
Honestly I like an a litte of both, a good personality is more important, but I like looks to go on top of that...each one is greatly helped by the other.
Also is this what you like in other people, or what you like in yourself(to try and get a girl/boyfriend or spouse)

Re: "most men" that can't handle the "woman who is stunningly beautiful and intellectually brilliant... they should just deal with their own insecurities. It seems silly to me to pass up a good person for that reason...
its smart to date someone who's around where you are... and as far as dealing with insecurities go... they hold you back in life, yes true... but you still need a tiny splinter of it because it keeps you from getting too big headed. if a girl is neurosurgeon smart and victoria secret model hot, why would she want to be with you? i mean KNOW i'm good looking, but i also know that i'm not that good looking or that smart. so what? she likes you for your 'personality'? thats ******** 90% of the time ... for most women who like guys who aren't in their league its either for a) money b) because they they like ***** whipped guys c) they're insecure about themselves ... if a, they'll bled you dry, if b, you (at least I) won't be happy being someone's servant, and if c) eventually they'll wise up and won't need you anymore.
but i'm getting long winded here.... my point is
if you're just after sex, then date whoever you want... but if your goal is a stable steady romantic relationship, you should go for someone who can truly love you back.

Well this is a tough one. So I'll the story of 2 guys I know (who were roommates). Both of them were good looking. Ok one was really hot in the whole "good on paper" way. The other one was really cute..but maybe on the short side. At the end of the day the winner in the battle of my friends was the short cute guy. The other guy was boring and had no personality. What a shame.
So I'd say beauty gets your foot in the door, and the brains is the door stop. I'll take the brains. But yeah I agree, great to have both.
Now a questions: do you think people stick with people in their same 'class?'
Me personally, I think beautiful people end up with beautiful people, cute people with cute, good looking with pretty and so on. Usually it is 5s with 5s etc, and they don't always seem to crossover. when I do see the crossover, the guys always ends up as the winner. I.E. I never see a super hot guy with a super-not girl. What do you think is happening here?
