Problem with Disk Utility

Hi, wondering if anyone can help?

I'm trying to use Disk Utility to restore the contents of a large DMG onto an external hard drive (a FireWire iPod FWIW).

I go into Disk Utility, hit the Restore tab, drag my source disk image to the Source field, but when I try and drop the iPod to the Destination field, it is greyed out and won't let me drag and drop. The drive icon just goes bouncing back to the desktop. Same happens with every FireWire and USB hard drive I have lying around. And there's no Browse button so I can select a drive manually. I'm logged into an administrator account.

The same thing is happening on 2 computers - both running 10.4.7 , I know I've done it before - I must be going mad! Please help! How do I do this!

1. Connect your iPod to your computer.
2. Select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
3. Click the Options button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window to open the iPod preferences window.
4. Click “Enable FireWire disk use.” This will allow your iPod to both store your files and play your music. iPod Disk Use is now enabled.
5. Notice the icon that appears on-screen
* NOTE: Double-click the icon to see what’s stored on your iPod.
6. Drag any file you want to store on your iPod to the iPod window.
7. When you’re done, click the iPod Eject button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window. The iPod screen will display “OK to disconnect” when it is safe to unplug it.
