$910 on ebay for one with 1.25gb RAM w/o a BT mouse, keyboard, or iSight.
$900-$950 for a smart MR member with all the stuff, $1000 for a stupid ebay buyer?

~$800.00 ;)
Well, if you say ~$800 ever knowing iGary, then I guess I'll just hold onto it. In that all that stuff together cost me close to $2000, its not worth selling it for $800 at this point.

So what is your comfort level with selling it? $1,000?
If so try it, but I don't really think you'll get much over $900.
Prove me wrong. :)

Yeah, I agree with iGary. I snipe a lot of auctions for Powerbook's on ebay...and it'll take a sucker to pay $1,000 for that machine...$825-910ish on the high end b/c of the iSight cam is about what I foresee you getting on eBay...and a lil' less here on MR because of us cheapies...if you get over $850 on any site I'd be surprised...the PB G4 prices are falling every day...

This is exactly why my PowerBook is not for sale. I would, however, trade it for a MacBook. :)

I agree.I have a 15",1.5 PB with 2gb RAM and a 100 gb 7200 rpm drive and I am tempted to buy a Macbook but I am not sure how much it would sell for.

If you sell your Powerbook on Ebay, be sure to ship internationally. I just sold mine for $2000!! That's what I payed one year ago! It sold to a man in Indonesia. The shipping is nearly $100, but who cares?! I did very well on Ebay!

Your sure you got real money, scams are usually based in those area's most common one is from Nigeria on craigslist or ebay. thats pretty awesome though that you got that much.

I bought my powerbook and all that stuff for almost $2000. To see it devalue to $800 in less than 2 years is such a shame and a shock (you might be wondering about how the warranty fits in with that, but this is actually my 2nd powerbook- #1 broke and apple replaced).
I guess it seems like I haven't had this thing for too long. Time stands still when you have an apple I guess.

This is terrible advice. If it is too good to be true, then it is. Simple.
Stranger, I really hope that you haven't shipped yet because you're not going to see that money. Not ever.

Wow.
I feel bad for you. The two countries known internationally for their scam artists are Nigeria and Indonesia. I'd wager my computer that you will never see that money. Anyone spending that much more than normal for a dated machine is surely a scammer.

Honestly, try to sell a two year old Dell or Sony or the like and see what you get. You've had two good years of use out of an amazing computer. It's not made out of gold, so of course there is going to be depreciation over time. $800 toward a new MBP? I'd take that in a heartbeat.

I transferred funds to my bank account through Paypal following a Canon 20D auction, except the buyer wasn't international but located in Florida. I felt a little off with the auction (I mean, he did live in Florida!) so I held the shipping for a couple of days and sure enough Paypal recalled the funds.
The funds being in your bank account have nothing to do with the validity of the transaction. Sorry.
To the original poster, good luck with your decision, and be prudent in your selling!

Then be prepared to see a -$2000 balance in your paypal account, and after not paying it, Paypal sending debt collectors to your home and harrasing you on the telephone. What these people do is steal OTHER peoples paypal account information, so in all actuality you probably have some other american's money and they are just realizing that their checking account has $2000 less in it. Paypal in all of it's glory instead of actually protecting this behavior, in a few days, will take the money from you to send back to it's rightful owner, and the powerbook that you paid so much for will be gone forever...

"Josephkyles" are you sure the auction has ended? The 12-inch powerbook from your .Mac page:
http://homepage.mac.com/josephkyles/.cv/josephkyles/Sites/.Public//DSC03202.jpg-thumb_194_194.jpg
seems like it is still up for auction at a very high buy-it-now price:

Did you really sell it or are you just giving some intentionally awful advice?
I'd hope that this is not intentional and somehow a misunderstanding!
Anyhow, Compuser, absolutely feel confident in selling your machine, just be careful with the transaction and soon you'll be in a Merom-based MBP. Again, good luck!

Yeah, something really doesn't seem right with Big Joe.
The scams that are out there are ridiculous, and paypal will not be helpful. Usually scams are when you buy something, but more and more now is when people overseas try to buy things from you. There's just too many possible negative factors for anyone to sell internationally.
My first and last international transaction on ebay years ago has someone buy a laptop from me only to say that it arrived broken. Think about all the hassle involved to get that straightened out.
Stick with the US or even better, locally.
Good Luck!

Craigslist really is your friend if you live in an area where people use it a lot
