It's a program that lets you string together common computer actions in order to perform routine or time-consuming tasks more easily.

There's a lot of good information about it on Apple's Automator page (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/automator/).

There's another good Automator site at Automator.us (http://automator.us).

Automator is based on AppleScript (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/applescript/).

You can see a few Automator demonstrations on the MacBreak Video Podcast: Episode 3 (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=153572588&s=143441&i=5287846), Episode 8 (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=153572588&s=143441&i=6909563), Episode 14 (http://http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=153572588&s=143441&i=9071366).

Now you're an expert.

You can make really cool scripts with automator. I have a really simple one that brings up a box, you select a file or files then it backs it up to my email.
