iPod Compatability of stuff with the new 80GB

Hi!

OK, so i'm going to take the plunge and order my 1st iPod after using many Archos' for years.

Basically as the iPod 80GB is new, the accessories in the Apple store haven't updated to show definate compatability. So can someone who is more iPod savvy, give my order a once over to check everything is compatable. The people at my local apple centre couln't help me either.

One last thing: 😛 The power adpater USB thingy MA592, in the pic it shows an American plug, but i'm in the sunny UK, so does it have a UK plug and they have got the pics muddled up? As I couldn't find another USB charger!

The 80GB iPod is the exact same size as the old 60GB iPod - any accessories that worked with the 60GB iPod will work with the 80GB iPod.

The power adapter will come with pins suitable for the country you bought it in. It is also compatible with the travellers kit - you simply slide out the pins you have and replace them with the ones suitable for the country you are travelling to.

Or can you reccomend one that is better and will stop scratches etc.

Just looking at the AV Kit b4 I order.

Would you all reccomend getting it? and knocking off the USb power adapter and dock as that come with it right?

Also it comes with a remote I think, and so does my future macBook Pro, will there be any compatability issues by using 2 remotes or are they on sep channels????

The AV kit comes with:

USB power adapter
A/V cables
Dock to USB cable
Apple Remote
Universal Dock

It's a pretty good deal.

You can pair an Apple Remote to a specific device.
 
When your Power Adapter arrives, don't panic that it has a picture of the US Plug on the front of the box and no mention on the box ANYWHERE that it's a UK model. I ordered one of these in for a friend in work and she freaked out when it looked like Apple had sent a US power adapter. Upon opening, all was well 🙂

Or do I have to have one for each?

How do I start setting channels out of interest? (i've not bought them yet - i'm going to order the iPOd and stuff tonight probably and the 17" MBP Merom as soon as it comes out!

You can use one remote for both but make sure you're out of range of one when you point it at the other or they'll both start doing stuff. If you pair a remote to the dock you can only use that remote for that dock.

I don't know how to pair a remote, I think it's to do with holding Menu and fast forward button. Why don't you do some research for yourself and look up remote pairing on the Apple Support site?

How to pair the Apple Remote with the iPod Universal Dock
Make sure other products that are compatible with the remote are powered off.
Connect the dock to your computer or to an electrical outlet.
Put an iPod in the dock and turn the iPod on.
Point the remote at the front of the dock.


Press and hold the Menu and Next/Fast-Forward buttons together for about six seconds. There is no visible feedback to indicate the pairing is complete.
The dock now works only with that remote.

To reset the dock to work with all remotes
Make sure other products that are compatible with the remote are powered off.
Connect the dock to your computer or to an electrical outlet.
Put an iPod in the dock and turn the iPod on.
Point the remote at the front of the dock.
Press and hold the Menu and Previous/Rewind buttons together for about six seconds.
