Don't go in the Logitech G5/G7 line....
I would personally say MX1000 is the perfect mouse, but I have not used an MX Rev yet. That looks amazing...
If I end up getting a new mouse, I will get that. But for now the MX1000 is a near perfect mouse <3

The new Logitech MX Revolution looks amazing. I just can't pay $99 for a mouse, though. I'm looking at the Cordless Desktop for Mac combo, which includes a mouse and keyboard for $99. I think it's the S 530 or something... and it's very Mac-like with its colors. :)

I have used the MX1000 for the past year or so with my iMac and absolutely love it. In fact, a couple of weeks ago I sold the iMac and didn't include the mouse because I didn't want to part with it.
The MX Revolution does seem like a nice upgrade though.

I've been using the Logitech Dual Optical since it came out (late 2002?). Had to clean out the wheel once because it stopped working, and the rubber is starting to come off on one of the sides. Other than that it's worked flawlessly since I got it.
And oh do i remember when I got it, i replaced my crap ass single optical mouse because while moving it too fast the arrow would move allllll over the screen, made it really hard for gaming!
so to me, this is the best mouse in the world:)

i just bought one from amazon for 74 usd. it's not as great as it looks. the keyboards feel really flimsy and made of cheap light plastic. the sound it makes when you type also reinforces that. the mouse is pretty hard to use due to the insane mouse acceleration. it just doesn't feel right no matter what setting you set the tracking speed to. if you don't mind these inconveniences then go for it. it looks really cool and the extra multimedia buttons are great. i really wish it would function at the same level as its aesthetics though.

I've been happiest with this:
Logitech MX400 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2142,CONTENTID=11551)
Corded (way less fuss than cordless, and no batteries, so very light.)
Accurate laser, extremely comfortable, very nice positive but light click feel,
no annoying doodads, and cheap.

The original Logitech Kidz Mouse was the best mouse ever! It was shaped like an actual mouse, its ears were the buttons and the cord was its tail. I had one years ago, but seem to have misplaced it :(

The Mighty Mouse.;)
i pretty like this mouse except that its tracking is a little bit annoying. when i move fast, it's ok. but when i comes to precision and moving slowly, it takes like forever to make the pointer move..
also, the BT version of it, it never connects properly in windows XP (running on MP)

The MX revolution all the way. The Mighty mouse is an innovation that just doesnt quite hit the mark. And the trackball apparantly gets clogged up very easily.

hey, 6 weeks ago i used the Mighty Mouse (wireless) for the first time, when i got my MP. i hated it. and i used the MX Rev instead. but i have changed my mind now.
for general use, i definitely like the MX Rev better. with a bunch of customizable buttons, it helps me switch apps fast, surf web fast and convenient. the scroll wheel is just great. and many more. i have a tripple LCDs setup, and this mouse helps me travel across these monitors conveniently. with the Mighty Mouse, it takes me forever to move around the screen, eventhough i set the tracking settings to maximum.
however when it comes to image editing, i find the Mighty much much better, especially with precised details.
so, i now using them both.

I can agree to that. Mighty Mouse is nice, but needs a little work. I'm not sure if the MX Revolution is the best mouse in the world, but it is really a nice mouse. Maybe one of the best I've used.

I use a Logitech G5, and honestly, it's a great mouse, but there is another logitech that doesn't have the weight system that would work just as well and is a little cheaper. The only reason I went with the G5 was that newegg had a sale where it was the same price as the lower end model...
I couldn't stand the mighty mouse because of the blasted side buttons, I was always hitting them when I was dragging across both monitors.

Logitech MX Revolution is the best I have used. Feels good, looks good, its worth the cost. The wireless on it is flawless (MM Bluetooth is junk half the time) and I get about a 5 days-a week between charges (its rechargeable and comes with a base)

Logitech MX1000 - Laser is great, battery life is brilliant. Charging station, plenty of buttons.
Only thing that bugs me is the horizontal scroll thing - anyone know of a way to configure it (doesnt appear to be in the logitech control centre or the mouse tab) - it's default setting only scrolls slowly, and in tiny increments. Makes it largely useless.
Other than that though...

It's simply an impossible question. All mice out there were created in an attempt to be the best mouse according to some criteria.
Since we all have different needs and different habits we'll have different answers.
I like the Mighty Mouse because I use it as a one-button mouse mostly and I like the scroll ball. I'm used to how it behaves and moves, so it feels all natural to me.

Amen! The Razer Pro is actually the best mouse ever. Both for gaming and for pro work. The Logitech/Microsoft mice may seem cool with all of their buttons and wheels and things, but believe me when I say that if you really want a mouse, you really want a Razer. Come out of the sandbox and play for keeps.

I've tried a Razer Pro mouse (bought one for work), but I didn't like it at all. It has a very strange shape compared to most other mice and I suspect it works better for those with larger hands. Maybe it'd get better with some use, but the first impression was really bad.

I have the MX1000 a lot of you talk about and don't really like it. The tracking is nice but it lags once in a while, yet the receiver is right here next to me.
It's a great mouse to use except the battery dies quickly. I hate the big cradle you have to put it in, it's horrible if you're using it with a portable and pretty much eliminates the idea of cordless.
I think I like the idea of a Bluetooth mouse since it eliminates the cables and the dongles all together.

I like it better too, in theory. However, BT doesnt really have the bandwidth for high accuracy tracking. The RF mice work better, but it depends on your needs. I keep a wireless MM for my macbook pro, but on the home machine, I use the Logitech MX

I just bought the corded Mighty Mouse and I like it overall. Side bottons and tiny scroll ball take some getting used to. For some reason I really like being able to left-click with both my index and middle finger at the same time. I can also left-click with my middle finger on the right-click side with my index finger resting on the left-click side. Hope all that made sense.
*I have the same problem as some of you with the slow tracking speed. Use this: http://homepage.mac.com/bhines/mousezoom.html
The top setting should be named "warp speed" though. :D I'm on "uber fast."

I've had a MX 1000 for over a year and its fantastic.
The new MX Revolution looks sweet.
If you have the cash go with the MX Revolution and if you don't want to spend that much on a mouse then go with the MX 1000.
Apple designs great computers but when it comes to mice they definitely fall short of the mark.

So far I bought 3 mice and returned 2.
The USB mice, one is Microsoft Optical Mouse and the other one is the mouse made by HP. both are 19.98. They both response very poorly on my Macbook Pro.
Do you think a laser mouse will work better, or an optical mouse will b better? What are the specs I need to look for when buying a very responsive mouse. I need precision because I work w/ image and chart alot. Moving around w/ this Logitech V270 mouse is a pain.
I will definitely go and try the Logitech LX5 like you guys said in this forum, it seems like it's a responsive one.

I like Microsoft's (now discontinued, but successors are available) Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 with the Mac. It has no fancy features which doesn't work properly. It tracks halfway between 'Logitech Jerk' and 'Apple Valium'. The freemoving scroll wheel is something I like and the only problem is that the side scroll lacks control just like the Logitechs and the Mighty Mice are better in this respect only. Batteries last quite a long while. Apart from the sidescroll now that I know what the Mighty Mice can do, it's almost a perfect mouse for me.
Revolution MX is a decent mouse. Like the shape, OK with the weight, like the tracking, like the very smooth movement but the OS X drivers don't help. I don't think the Smart scroll brings anything new in terms of usability to the table and the side wheel click control is bad. For what it does in OS X, the above / below mice are better bets for the money. Non-swappable Li-ion batteries make this essentially a three-year disposable mouse, and I'll bet there's unlikely to be huge availability for replacement batteries on this thing.
Among others I have, the Wireless Mighty mouse is better than the wired, mainly down to the higher weight (more inertia combined with smooth movement = better accuracy) and better tracking. Squeeze side controls aren't actually all that ergonomic. Right click still sucks.
I'm waiting for an MX1000 equipped PC and I'll try it on the Mac.

I had this problem with the wired mice. If you can, get it replaced because I've had no problems like that with the new replacements. The wireless MM also doesn't have this issue. As for the scroll ball - don't mouse with filthy hands :p

I love my MS Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=069). It's simple, it works well, very comfortable and the batteries last about 4-6 months.
I just wish it came in blue tooth. I ordered a logitech blue tooth mouse with my MBP, so when that arrives we'll see how that is. If it sucks then I guess my quest for a perfect blue tooth mouse will continue. Really? why are they so hard to find?

There is a bluetooth version of the MS intellimouse... I've been trying to track one down that's actually on sale over here.
The MX900 has a nasty habit (and I've had this with multiple MX700's too which share the same casing design) of mouse buttons 'binding' after a while, just like the Apple keyboard. I have one but it rarely sees the light of day.

The best mousing company is razer, but unfortunately they don't currently sell very many mice for mac's.
Since your looking for a mouse for a mac theirs currently only the razer Death Adder mac edition, it is currently approximately 60$ USD from there online website. the bad part is that its only a right handed mouse.
Here's the link, you decide.

I've had 2 Logitech mice. First a MX700 and now the MX1000, love them both. The 1000 is better with battery meter but while it has a better battery live it's built in unlike the 700 which uses 2x AA so can be replaced at any time.
I love it mainly because of all the buttons and with USB Overdrive they can be customized for different aps.
What I want now is a good bluetooth mouse for a laptop, but with the same buttons.

Looks nice, feels nice... but otherwise I disagree. Without the drivers it is a skippy mess. With the drivers it has 5 profiles, but none of them bind to an application. You know like when you want ONE set of buttons for photoshop and a different one for World of Warcraft? I couldn't find a way to do that, and I looked very carefully.
How about updating the firmware? You can't do it mac-side. You have to do it on a windows machine... not sure if dual boot will work or not. Guessing it might.
I also discovered that you can't bind function keys to the buttons. You can set it up that way, it appears to accept the setting but then it simply doesn't work. (As of 10.5.5) I called tech support on this and they apologized and said to watch the web for an update. I think I'll take it back to the store instead, thanks.

I prefer wired Logitech mouse

The old, basic Microsoft optical mouse is/ was best. Right size, weight, number of buttons, and a good wheel.
I had a Mighty Mouse, and had to throw it in the bin in the end. The ball jammed and needed cleaning all the time, and then one of the buttons broke. Frankly, the hidden button thing is just rubbish - you can't tell what you're pressing so have to use the edge of the mouse all the time.
One day, I hope, Apple is finally going to come up with a decent mouse. I mean, it's only, er, 26ish years since Steve J pinched the whole WIMP thing from Xerox....

One of my favs still, I'm using one on one computer, the 5 button optical.
They just don't seem to last forever.
What I just don't get used to are the now common right hand only mice, with the side buttons all being on the left.
I'm a righty, but play the occasional game with the mouse in my left hand, and generally feel much more comfortable with buttons on each side.
So my main mouse is an ancient Logitech MX 310 with USB Overdrive.
