I am thinking of getting the 24" imac to replace my aging G4 867mhz, 1gig ram, 10.4.7.

I usually have Photoshop (I work with 50meg+ files), Dreamweaver, mail and safari all open at once.
There is always lot of the 'spinning beach ball' activity when I try to work, which is why I want to get a new machine but find the Mac Pro to expensive.

Could the imac cope with this kind of workload or would it be slower than my G4 running PS and DW through Rosetta?

Anyone else followed a similar upgrade path?

Terry

Even with Rossetta the new iMac will smoke your old Computer.

That's what I was hoping to hear. :)

I just upgraded my G4 867 Powerbook to a 2.0 Ghz MacBook Pro... the difference in speed and stability was way over my expectations. I haven't personally tested Photoshop, though, as I plan on using that on my Windows partition.

It'll be worth it. Just make sure to get at least 2GB of RAM.

I just upgraded (to a 24"-er) from a 933 G4 Quicksilver...the difference is staggering... even with Rosetta.

Do you use Photoshop, if so, does it run better on the 24"? Also MS word is sluggish on my 867, how does that fare on the new machine?

Thanks for all the comments so far, it seems the 24 is the way to go.:D
