Can customers return/exchange tems at the different Apple Store.

I recall I saw some posts in the past on this. Is it the official Apple Store policy that the customer can exchange/return items they purchased at one Apple Store with another Apple Store? Or, is it simply each store management's discretion?
 
That seems correct to me. However the easiest thing, even easier than posting here, would be to call the store where you want to make the return.
